Hidden Gems: Meet Kendall Williams of Nexus Creative

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendall Williams.

Hi Kendall, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I got my start in marketing when I was in college. I had no idea what I wanted to major in, but marketing interested me. I really like to say I got started in high school as editor of the yearbook for 4 years, little did I know it would become my career!

I decided to apply for internships to test the waters. I ended up getting an internship (with no experience) at an agency; the rest is history. I really developed my love for project management while working in an agency setting!

Today I run an online business management company, serving marketing CEOs after quitting my 9-5 in October!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Entrepreneurship has not been a smooth road, to say the least. It is magnificent and exciting, but scary at the same time. No one teaches you how to set up your business, how to do quarterly taxes, or how to hire the right employees – it’s basically a daily guessing game.

My biggest struggle is learning to set up my business correctly, manage my time (work-life balance), and do accounting.

There are so many lessons to be learned, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!

We’ve been impressed with Nexus Creative Co., but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I help overstretched business owners streamline processes and marketing so they can get their time back and focus on what they are good at.

I pride myself on being an ADHD-preneur and being multi-passionate. This has served me well having knowledge in a plethora of marketing techniques, but where I thrive is in project management. I love to collaborate with creatives to design workflows that work for them and make day-to-day projects more manageable.

I am most proud that I took the leap to invest in my business and in myself. Quitting my corporate job was the scariest thing I have ever done. When I quit I didn’t have enough money to pay my rent, but I took the chance and it was the best choice I could have made.

I want people to know that my brand is fun, welcoming, and designed to work for busy business owners who need some help.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My best advice for finding a mentor is to find someone who are YOU or who you WANT to be in 5-10 years and ask them to mentor you. They have been in your shoes! I am also the Director of personal and professional development for YPSLC, a local networking group for young professionals which is not only a good networking organization, but we are developing a mentorship program.

The Women’s Business Center of Utah has amazing business mentors and they host classes for entrepreneurs.

You have to put yourself out there, join Facebook groups, and don’t be afraid to talk about what you do and who you are, because you never know who is listening!
