Today we’d like to introduce you to Chad & Kelsey Keddington. Them and their team share their story with us below:
We’ve been married for 12 years and have 3 beautiful children. The first few years we were married we lived in the Twin Cities and bought the most idyllic 1920s cottage that we renovated from the ground up. Chad grew up learning the trades and he’s a master craftsman. Kelsey is a creative dreamer, so together we make a pretty good team.
Moving to Utah almost 8 years ago was a desperate move to find a job that actually provided for our family while also nurturing our appetite for a new adventure.
When the pandemic hit, Kelsey had just lost her job, was in the 2nd trimester of pregnancy, and we found ourselves needing to readjust (much like the rest of the world). Keddington Dwellings was birthed as a creative outlet to share the different projects we were working on in our West Jordan home, as well as the random odd jobs Chad was getting on the side. In the last 3 years of building our business, we’ve slowly become a carpentry & floral design business. Our passion is seeing our clients find solace and inspiration in their homes, and cultivate hospitality, where people they love want to linger and dwell.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Building a business is full of trials and tribulations. For us, we’re still in the midst of learning all the ins and outs of ownership, branding ourselves, creating value, and finding our niche and true passions.
Also, running a business with your spouse is no easy task- but we’re learning how to navigate a balance between work and family. Chad still works a full-time job outside of Keddington Dwellings as well, so one of our biggest challenges is finding the time and capacity to take on custom carpentry projects. We are hopeful that there will come a day when Keddington Dwellings is our only full-time pursuit.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Keddington Dwellings is a carpentry & floral design business. What that means is that creative design is our passion.
We do custom carpentry installations in homes and businesses, we have a floral bouquet subscription service, and we will soon be launching a home product line.
I think what sets us apart is our passion to pursue the “after.” We want to know how our client lives, what they love, and how they want their home to feel when they or someone they love enters it. It’s not just about a custom built-in, or a vase full of flowers. It’s about what those pieces will inspire.
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Kelsey is the risk-taker in our relationship and business endeavors. She’s the one that always sees the glass half-full and her level of optimism when jumping into a new endeavor scares Chad sometimes (haha).
But honestly, for us risk is a part of business ownership. If you don’t believe the risk of putting your gift or ideas into the world is worth it, you wouldn’t be an entrepreneur.
