Exploring Life & Business with Mark Lunt of The Cache Bar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Lunt. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Mark and Janice Lunt, the owners and operators work together to ensure Logan has the nightlife that was sorely missing for many years! Mark developed a passion for making downtown Logan a more intriguing and exciting place to be. This started with his position as a mailman where he stayed for 15 years developing a love for Logan and its people. He began his journey with Logan by spearheading the construction of a trail connecting downtown, to USU, to Logan canyon, and all the way to the mount Naomi wilderness! From there, he became the owner of, and saved, The Island Market, a locally owned, loved, and frequented little corner market.

The need for nightlife was next on his list and the former Gia’s restaurant was the perfect spot for a new venue right in the heart of the city! With a TON of work and a bit of luck, The Cache Bar received the first new bar license in Logan in over 30 years! Janice completed the design and Mark put on his toolbelt and oversaw the renovation which included new bathrooms, an updated kitchen, dropping the ceiling, and removing several walls to create a modern open space. They were able to re-purpose most of the old lumber to build all the tables, the stage, and our 40-foot-long bar!

After all that work, they were able to convert the old brick building into a “utilitarian chic” design that won the Logan Downtown Alliance Renovation of the year award!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Enduring the gauntlet that was required to obtain the first new bar license in Logan in over 30 years!

As you know, we’re big fans of The Cache Bar. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The Cache Bar is a newly renovated 1940s art deco building with a modern open-air concept with 2 outdoor dining patios located in Logan’s historic downtown! We feature local craft beer, employee-crafted and inspired cocktails that always have fresh ingredients, and a food menu that focuses on local ingredients. Most people are surprised and intrigued to learn that we fresh squeeze all of our citrus in-house EVERY single day!

We have a wide array of events and activities to do at The Cache, ranging from karaoke, game nights, concerts, the biggest St. Paddy’s party in Logan, EDM shows, and much more. There is always something to do at The Cache!

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to us is improving Logan! Cache Valley is a (semi) hidden gem and it is growing immensely every year. We love our (not so) little college town and want to focus on being a space where everyone can feel welcome.

Since we have come downtown, we’ve seen huge shifts in nightlife and the culture of Logan and we hope to continue to help Logan’s downtown nightlife come alive!
