Inspiring Conversations with Skyeler McCook, Rachel Van Gundy, Kenz Matson, and Jonah Larsen of The Care

Today we’d like to introduce you to Skyeler McCook, Rachel Van Gundy, Kenz Matson, and Jonah Larsen.

Hi Skyeler, Rachel, Kenz, and Jonah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Jonah: Last year, I was at a point in my life where I had to balance my mental health with my social life. I was in a clothing store and thought what if I created a clothing company that sort of acknowledges mental health in a way that is healing to myself and to others?

As I began to doodle designs and sayings, I felt like this idea was bigger than myself. So I asked Kenz, Skyeler, and Rachel who all bring unique and individual talents that embody the essence of the care co. Which is, to care for your own mental health and those around you.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Group answer: Honestly, no. And that is totally okay to admit. Any creative endeavor is met with hurdles. When we formed a group of creative minds, we knew that we could create something better as a team than we could as individuals. As long as we learned how to approach a taboo topic like mental health in a respectful and personal way.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Care Co.?
We create clothing with unique messages centralized on mental health.

We started in September, so for the cold winters we made hoodies. Now that it’s spring, we have plans to make shirts, hats, and tote bags. We use our Instagram as a way to spread our message too. We post reels and photos regularly for our followers as a reminder to often check in on themselves.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Group answer: Vulnerability. Hands down. Everything we have done trickles from our trust to be vulnerable with one another. If we are vulnerable with each other, then we are able to be honest with ourselves, our brand, and the people who support us.
