Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Hare. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Baroness Olive Oil is a family-owned farm in the heart of the Sierra Foothills in Newcastle, California, owned by Barbara and Don Hare. We take care of our 400-tree olive grove all by hand, that’s a lot of love and hard work, but the taste is so worth it! We are very proud to be offering our customers products that are naturally grown and scientifically proven to benefit their health.
After our first year of harvesting in 2018, our olive products were so delicious we wanted more, and to share them, so we continue to work hard and bring our finest olive products to your table. We are environmentally conscientious by never using pesticides and we reduce waste by using the prunings off our trees to make our Olive Leaf Tea and Ground Olive Leaf.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We have seen that educating people about the benefits of extra virgin olive oil and olive leaf tea has been what we spend the most time on when we talk to customers. Getting the information out to the public is important so that people can make the best decisions about their health.

As a mom-and-pop small business, my husband Don and myself own and maintain our olive grove ourselves with the help of other family members on occasion. We bought the olive farm in 2018 not knowing anything about growing olives, but we both immersed ourselves in education at UC Davis. The more we learned, the more we loved them. Both Don and I come from farming roots, so it was easy for us to fall in love with the olives with farming blood in our veins.
Each year we continue to learn, and at harvest time we are blessed with healthy wonderful olives. We are a boutique olive grove growing 400 Italian Frantoio and Pendolino olives. Our practices are that we grow everything naturally without pesticides and are very proud that we can offer products that are scientifically proven to better our health in a natural way. We offer Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Olive Leaf Tea, Ground Olive Leaf, and OH MY Olive! Skin Moisturizer with Frankincense Essential Oil.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
When we bought the olive farm it was abandoned for 3 years.
With our care and nurturing we have brought back the olive trees to a healthy and vibrant state. They are producing more healthy fruit each year, which means healthier olive oil. This is our goal.
