Today we’d like to introduce you to Miquel McCarley.
Hi Miquel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Miquel McCarley, from a young age, I worked for my family’s painting business and fell in love with the construction world. I am a fifth-generation painter, so to say that painting and construction run in my blood, is definitely an understatement, it’s what I was born to be.
After starting a family of my own, I felt drawn back to the painting industry and eventually worked my way up to a management position, where I discovered my love for client interactions, job creation, and running a crew. After a few years of learning the ins and out of business, I eventually started my own company, Tyger Lily Designs & Interiors, where we specialize in cabinetry painting and interior painting.
With the onset of Covid, our business took off as people were spending more time at home and wanted to improve their living spaces. This led us to expand our services and ultimately transition into a general contracting company, MiqCarley Designs & Construction, which allowed us to take on bigger projects and remodel entire homes and offices.
For me, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of transforming a space into something that brings joy and comfort to the people who use it. It’s amazing to see the positive impact that a beautiful, well-designed space can have on someone’s mood and overall well-being.
When I see the transformation that our work has on a client’s space, it fills me with a sense of pride and satisfaction that is hard to put into words. The way that changing the colors, layout, or lighting of a space can completely alter the way a person feels when they’re in it is truly incredible.
Whether we’re painting a single room or remodeling an entire home, we always aim to create a space that is not only visually appealing but also functional and comfortable. It’s amazing to see the way that a well-designed space can improve someone’s quality of life and to know that we played a role in making that happen.
Now, I am proud to say that we are preparing to break ground on our first-ever spec home, which makes my dream come true. Our goal is to build beautiful and functional houses with timeless charm, unlike anything our little town has seen before.
I am constantly pushing myself and my amazing team to innovate and exceed expectations, to create unique and inspiring spaces that will leave a lasting impact. There is nothing else I would rather be doing, and I am excited to see where this passion for the construction world takes us.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While my journey has been incredibly rewarding, it has certainly not been without its challenges. As a painter turned General Contractor, I have had to navigate the often-daunting world of bookkeeping, office work, and operating procedures. As someone who thrives on creativity and hands-on work, the numbers and administrative tasks have been a significant struggle.
However, I have learned to adapt and overcome these challenges by seeking out help and support where I need it. I have been fortunate to build a team of skilled professionals who are able to assist me with the administrative and operational aspects of running a successful construction company.
One of the most significant obstacles I have faced is hiring and firing employees. As with any business, there are always unknowns when it comes to bringing new team members on board. However, I have learned to approach this process with a sense of humility and openness, seeking out individuals who are aligned with our company’s values and vision.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At our companies, we are dedicated to bringing our client’s visions to life while infusing each space with character and functionality. We understand that a beautiful space is more than just aesthetics; it should also have a well-thought-out flow and purpose. That’s why we prioritize functionality in every project we undertake.
Our signature style is clean, timeless, and inviting, with a touch of hominess and peacefulness. We believe a home or office should be a sanctuary, and our designs reflect this philosophy.
But our commitment to building lasting relationships doesn’t end with our clients. We also strive to cultivate strong connections with our employees, recognizing that a happy team is a productive team. We value each member of our team and take pride in watching them grow both professionally and personally.
At the end of the day, our mission is not just about completing a project; it’s about creating something meaningful that will stand the test of time. We approach each job with care and dedication, and we never leave a project without forming lasting friendships with our clients and our team members.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My greatest source of happiness is undoubtedly my loving husband David and our seven wonderful children. They bring me immense joy and a sense of pride, knowing that they are my greatest accomplishments in life. We live life to the fullest by sharing experiences together, whether it’s traveling the world or supporting each other’s interests and pursuits, we enjoy all of our time together.
David and I share a deep passion for travel and exploring new places. We are fascinated by the architecture of different cities and towns and often find inspiration for our construction company by taking cues from the unique homes and buildings we come across. It’s incredibly fulfilling to imagine the possibilities. I love to create vision boards for the things we hope to build someday.
While there are many things that bring me happiness in life, nothing compares to the joy and fulfillment that comes from spending time with my family and pursuing our passions together.
