Meet Brittany Paradis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Paradis.

Hi Brittany, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I started my YouTube channel, Bits of Paradis, and social media platform 10 years ago. I had a heart full of dreams, including my dream of becoming a mom through infertility/adoption, and I wanted to share my story.

My parents divorced when I was 2 years old. My mom was a single mom raising 5 kids from a wheelchair, as she suffered from lupus. She was in and out of the hospital my entire childhood before passing away when I was 10 years old. I had raised myself for the most part, and as an adult, I felt as though I was teaching myself everything I knew through trial and error – I wanted to share that journey. My journey of becoming a homemaker. My journey with lupus, infertility, and weight loss.

My journey of designing homes and chasing my passions. I wanted to share my successes, but most of all I wanted to share my failures, my vulnerabilities, and my struggles. I wanted my audience to know whatever hardships they were facing, they were not alone. I wanted them to see me achieve my goals, despite my trials so they would know they can too. So I picked up my camera and started filming.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a YouTube channel is the easy part. Growing your audience is where the challenge comes in. In the beginning, it can be a lot of work, time, and money that goes into it before you start to see growth. It is very easy to give up in the first year or two of trying to create an online presence.

You need to have a true passion for what you are doing to get you through those first initial growing pains. As with anything, consistency is key. Learning to put in the work even when you feel like giving up. For me, focusing on my “why” gave me the motivation to keep picking up my camera.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Over the past 10 years I have focused on sharing my passion for motherhood, DIYs, and designing homes. I love the creativity behind putting videos together for people to hopefully learn from, and enjoy. I recently went through a divorce, and being able to be vulnerable online with the community I’ve built, has been immensely healing for me.

My next big adventure is finding my first house to flip. I’ve always loved designing homes, and flipping houses has always been a dream of mine. I’m looking forward to bringing my audience along on more house hunting and flipping adventures as I navigate this new experience.

I am grateful for, and proud of this online community I have been able to create. I have shared my life’s hardest moments online, which has not been the easiest thing to do. It has, however, been rewarding. If I fail I want my audience to see, so they know failure is a part of the process, and when I succeed I want them to know the journey I took to get there. In doing so, I have created an audience of cheerleaders. We are all in this together. We are all rooting for each other.

What do you think about luck?
So much of what you do online falls into the hands of an algorithm. It can feel like you need a little bit of luck on your side to help a video get views or even go viral.

Unfortunately, you can’t calculate in luck when you are growing a business or creating goals. You have to put in the work and be driven by your passion for what you do. But you can do so with the knowledge that your hard work will bring opportunities. “Luck” for me is believing in yourself, and having faith that you have the ability to make all of your dreams come true.
