Conversations with Ethan Crisp

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ethan Crisp.

Hi Ethan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My passion for travel started very early on in life. I can still remember my parents loading my sister and me up in the car and taking our first long road trip from Ohio to Florida. My Mom handed me a sheet of paper with all 50 states listed, and I was to check off each one as I saw that state’s license plate.

It was somewhere along that journey down Interstate 75 that I made it a goal of mine to visit all 50 states in the United States. Not to get too far ahead of myself, but I was able to reach that goal just hours before my 30th birthday, after touching down at the airport in Kahului on the Hawaiian island of Maui. My new and ultimate goal is to visit every county in the United States, all 3,144 of them. I’m currently sitting at 55% complete. Even at the age of 10, I can remember looking out the car window, wanting to take it all in as our car passed by. I had officially been infected with the travel bug and a lifelong case of wanderlust that I still live with to this day.

Fast forward to 2017, and somewhere along Interstate 94 between Fargo and Bismarck, North Dakota, the idea of USA Getaway was born. It started as a conversation between myself and my wife, who had recently become my forever travel partner. I started talking about how there were so many travel channels and consultants out there, but none that I knew of that catered specifically to United States travel, and more specifically, the great American road trip like I had been raised on.

From there, I selected a logo, and name and created all the important social media channels to start pushing our content out. I said from the beginning that I wanted to share stories from the road and highlight America’s best-kept secrets. After a while, I decided to use the expertise that I had gained through my extensive travels to expand into the world of offering travel consulting services to those looking to get the most out of their next USA getaway.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The roads in life that lead you to the best views are often similar to the ones you might find in the backcountry of Montana or Alaska: modestly maintained, covered in dirt or gravel, and at times convincing you that you must have taken the wrong turn.

Learning how to manage our social media channels to garner followers, all while maintaining our brand was certainly a challenge at first, and one that I continue to work on to this day.

Probably the biggest challenge I have faced in this journey so far is trying to strike a healthy balance between being present at the moment and enjoying our travels, and the constant need to be on the lookout for more potentially useful content for our social media channels.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m excited that USA Getaway has been able to assist both Americans and those traveling to the United States from other countries in getting the most out of their trip or vacation.

We look forward to working with you!

Any big plans?
As our reach continues to grow, my main priority above all else is to continue having fun and never lose sight of the passion that drives USA Getaway. Staying true to who I am, and what USA Getaway represents is extremely important to me. With that being said, I’m constantly studying the latest trends and talking with current and potential clients about needs within the United States travel community that aren’t being addressed.

Whether that be offering guided tours of a client’s preferred destination, transportation services, or projects that encourage Americans to consider staying in the country while making travel plans, we have a lot of work to do in order to make sure that as many people that want to travel the United States are given the proper tools and access to be able to do so!
