Today we’d like to introduce you to Kara García.
Hi Kara, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
In 2019 I started to find myself feeling very lost after having my second child. I felt like I had lost my identity, and my health was declining. I was suffering from severe kidney infections, anxiety, and depression and wanted so badly to improve my circumstances physically and financially but wasn’t really sure how. As crazy as it sounds I was praying for something to enter my path that could help me. That’s when a total stranger messaged me on Insta and shared some info with me about gut health. I decided to start learning more about gut health and how it affects our bodies. After 30 days of “cleaning up my gut health,” my kidney infections were gone, I lost 15 lbs, my PPD and anxiety had gotten so much better and I knew I wanted to share my journey with others.
I grew my social media (Instagram) to around 2500 followers that year. Then in 2020 my twin Kylie Briggs told me about this new app called Tiktok. I had no interest in dancing on an app for kids but decided to give it a try after a couple of months of her telling me to give it a try. I quickly realized I could reach a much larger audience on TikTok than I was able to reach on instagram. After about a week I had 15k followers and I knew that I wanted to find my community and help other mamas. In April 2020, my 15-year-old sister took her life and I was once again reminded of how much our world needs hope. It was a very hard time for me and I channeled a lot of my sadness into work, especially since most of us were on lockdown.
That year I helped over 350 people do a 30-day gut reset with Arbonne. On the last day of 2020, my son was diagnosed with Autism. After my son’s diagnosis, I became more grateful for the knowledge that I had about chemicals and toxins and the impact they have on our bodies and I started to share with other moms my journey with my son, and how what we eat and how what our children eat truly does make a difference in their lives. In 2021 my dream of becoming a homeowner finally came true. We went from living in an RV to living in a 7-bedroom house, over 4,000 sq. ft. on two acres. It was on my vision board since 2019 and I felt so blessed to make that dream a reality. Shortly after buying our home, I found out that I was expecting.
I had HG and was very sick my entire pregnancy which meant I wasn’t growing as much on social media as I was before but I showed up as much as I could and the community I had created was there for me every step of the way. In 2022 I had my baby girl and started sharing more of my life again on social media (specifically TikTok) My community continued to grow on social media and I even started a Facebook group for mamas who have a child with ASD like me called “Life with lijah”. In November of 2022 my twin and I was invited to do a doc u series. In 2023 I moved to Utah to b closer to my twin and have since grown my community on TikTok to over 800k followers. I share our life in both Spanish and English and I know I wouldn’t be where I’m at today if the Lord didn’t answer my prayer four years ago.
I have been personally mentored by some of my most amazing women (Miranda Burcham, Ashley Morgan) the community I have in Arbonne has taught me to give more than I take and that anything I want in this life I can have if I help others get what they want. Some of the books that have helped me most along the way are, Atomic Habits, Unf*ck Yourself, and How to Win Friends, and influence people.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I started building my business and social media I quickly realized that my reason “why” my children could quickly become my biggest excuse if I wasn’t careful. Trying to “show up” on social media as well as take care of a 5-month-old, a two-year-old with ASD and a 5-year-old was not easy. I had to really prioritize my time. It meant that I no longer stayed up till 12 at night to watch Netflix or scroll through Instagram, I had to be intentional with my time.
I had to wake up before my kids so I could start my day with Prayer, scripture study, the gym, and personal growth before they had even opened their eyes. I had to get uncomfortable. There were times were I didn’t see any growth or any sales and it felt super discouraging. But I learned early on that if I was going to ride the roller coaster of emotions I would always feel like I was going up and down all the time, so I got off the roller coaster. I allowed myself to be attached to the activity and not the outcome.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Helping others is something that has always brought me a lot of joy. I love to help others do for themselves what they may not have the knowledge or willpower to do on their own.
I think one of the hardest parts of this for me is realizing that some people can know something is good/bad for them and still have zero desire to change how they are currently doing things.
