Hidden Gems: Meet Tony Acosta of 1 Percent Lists Wasatch Front

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Acosta.

Hi Tony, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Utah to a Mexican family. Grew up playing sports and Latin dancing. I started in real estate in 2013 at the age of 23. I had zero business experience, no contacts, no knowledge, just a will to work hard and learn. I started showing homes to other agents’ clients and slowly rose up the ranks.

In 2017 I became the principal broker of my then agency and transitioned into agent training on top of servicing clients. In 2019 I was accepted into the Forbes magazine real estate council. I have earned the award for Top 500 agent in Utah for the last 5 years running. In 2022 I was inducted into the Salt Lake Board of Realtors Hall of Fame. I also started my own agency, 1 Percent Lists Wasatch Front in early 2022.

I am currently President of the Utah Podcast Coalition which is a networking and education group for local podcasters. I am also the Head Organizer of TEDx Timpview Drive. I love coaching speakers and preparing events.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest challenge was imposter syndrome early in my career. I had no experience, or contacts, not to mention the fact I looked like I was 15. I was showing homes to clients and trying to answer questions that I didn’t have much experience with.

When I became a broker, more imposter syndrome. I was now in charge of training agents. I had no management experience at the time but I had to train our agents and help them be successful. Our team became the highest-producing Latino team in the state of Utah and we were runner-up for the team of the year on our board of realtors.

Then I started my own brokerage and once again, imposter syndrome. It was my first company and I had to learn very quickly what it means to be a CEO. Every step of the way I have jumped head first into the new project and worked to make it successful.

Jumping into TEDx was also a very enlightening experience. Coaching and training speakers have been one of the most rewarding and fun processes of my life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are a discount real estate brokerage here in Utah looking to disrupt the way real estate is done. We have a team of agents that services buyers and sellers. My specialty is training my agents to communicate effectively and become true real estate experts.

What sets us apart is that we truly put our money where our mouth is when we say we put clients first. We are dedicated to not only providing a high service but also saving homeowners money. I am proud of our culture that truly puts clients first.

What’s next?
My plan is to expand our company with more agents and offices. I am also in the process of growing our TEDx platform to have a consistently high-level chapter here in Utah. Training local speakers to achieve their TEDx dream.
