Inspiring Conversations with Laura Parry of Roots & Branches Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Parry.

Hi Laura, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I was really drawn to social work in college and knew I wanted to have a career in a helping profession. I graduated from BYU with a degree in social work and then earned a master’s in social work from the University of Utah.

When I found perinatal mental health, I knew that’s what I wanted my specialty to be. I love advocating for new moms and raising awareness about the mental and emotional process of the pregnancy and postpartum period. New parents deserve so much better and there is much more education needed for all people preparing for the perinatal period.

Being a mom to three kids, I bring my personal and professional experience to my passion for providing support, education, and resources to all parents. I started my own solo therapy practice in 2017 and have since expanded to hire more therapists at my clinic Roots & Branches Wellness.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There’s a certain amount of imposter syndrome people face in many professions, and I haven’t been immune to those feelings. Worrying about being enough for my clients, having enough education, etc. But working through that imposter syndrome is part of the process, and I’ve found the longer I do this work, the easier it is to manage the imposter syndrome that still comes up sometimes.

Finding a balance between family and work can be difficult, and at times I have felt out of balance either way during my career. But, fortunately, I’ve had family and friends support me along with way, and have been able to create balance when I felt like it was lacking.

As you know, we’re big fans of Roots & Branches Wellness. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a mental health practice in Lehi, UT comprised of therapists who are passionate about supporting perinatal mental health. We understand the importance of ‘mothering the mother’ and creating a soft space to land for new moms who may be struggling with perinatal depression, perinatal anxiety, or the incredible demands of new parenthood.

All of our providers have received advanced training in perinatal mental health. We also specialize in couples counseling. It’s hard to thrive if our relationship isn’t thriving and we understand the importance of communication and connection for partners. We also see clients with many other life transitions, including divorce, dealing with infertility, and faith crises.

What’s next?
We offer events and groups and want to continue to expand our offerings to help all people, but especially new moms, feel a sense of connection and community. One day, we hope to offer yoga and other wellness modalities at our practice.
