Today we’d like to introduce you to Tuan Tran.
Hi Tuan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Tuan Tran, and I’m a hairstylist with over 30 years of experience. I was born in Vietnam and moved to the United States when I was young. I quickly discovered my passion for hairstyling, and I’ve been doing it ever since.
I’ve always loved working with hair and spent many hours practicing with my family and friends. After finishing high school, I pursued a career in hairstyling, and it didn’t take long for me to build a reputation for my exceptional skills and attention to detail. I take great pride in creating unique and personalized styles that complement my clients’ individual features and personalities. I love the feeling of transforming someone’s look and seeing how it boosts their confidence.
What I love most about being a hairstylist is that there’s always something new to learn. Even after 30 years, I’m still discovering new techniques and pushing the boundaries of my craft. I’m constantly seeking out education opportunities and love to share my knowledge and experience with younger stylists.
Outside of work, I’m a devoted father of three children, and I love spending time with my family. I also enjoy traveling and experiencing different cultures, which often inspires my creative work as a hairstylist. In summary, I’m a passionate and dedicated hairstylist who loves what I do.
My decades of experience have given me a deep understanding of the industry, and I’m committed to sharing my knowledge and expertise with others. Whether I’m creating stunning new styles or mentoring aspiring stylists, I’m always excited to be a part of this wonderful industry.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
These are just some of the few challenges of running a successful salon.
1. Staffing: One of the biggest challenges of running a salon is finding and retaining talented staff. Stylists and other salon professionals are in high demand, and it can be difficult to attract and keep the best employees. This is especially true in areas with a lot of competition.
2. Scheduling: Scheduling can be a headache for salon owners and managers. Balancing the needs of clients with the availability of staff can be a challenge, particularly during peak times like holidays and weekends.
3. Client management: Managing clients can be tricky, particularly when it comes to handling complaints or difficult customers. It’s important to have clear policies in place for handling these situations and to train staff on how to manage them effectively.
4. Marketing and branding: In a crowded market, it can be difficult to stand out and attract new clients. Salons must constantly work to build their brand and market their services to remain competitive.
5. Inventory management: Salons often carry a wide range of products, from hair care products to styling tools. Managing inventory levels, ordering products, and keeping track of stock can be challenging and time-consuming.
6. Financial management: Running a salon requires careful financial management. Owners and managers need to keep track of expenses, revenue, and profits, and make decisions about pricing, payroll, and other financial matters.
7. Technical challenges: Salons rely heavily on technology, from appointment scheduling software to payment processing systems. Technical issues can disrupt operations and lead to lost revenue, so it’s important to have a plan in place for managing and resolving these issues quickly.
Overall, running a salon requires a lot of hard work, dedication, and attention to detail. I still wouldn’t change it for the world.
As you know, we’re big fans of Hairlab+Studios. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My work has been published in hair magazines such as Modern Salon, and American Salon, and online features with Pixie Palooza, Behindthechair, and buzzcut feed, are just a few of many.
In my younger days, I was involved in some hair shows and loved travel. These days I’m working more just behind the chair and live taking care of my clients.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
I can remember cutting my friends’ hair from Jr high and high school.
I think I was always destined to do hair and not even know it. I would charge them 5 bucks and we would cut it in the bathroom. My poor mom would have to clean all the hair up cause we all know how well teenage boys clean up after themselves.
