Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Gallegos.
Hi Chris, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Since I was a little kid, I became very interested in looking for realism in movies. That was one of the main aspects that drove me to want to become an actor. I grew up in Chile and moved to the US when I was 15 years old, I learned to speak English mostly by watching movies, Star Wars to be more specific. I rewatched that trilogy until I could almost recite the entire movie by memory when I was like 10 years old.
Moving forward, I always looked for opportunities for acting while in college and throughout my corporate sales career. Two years ago, when I decided to change my course and dedicate my entire time to acting. I first started to approach universities and independent filmmakers looking for auditions, which allowed me to eventually have a significant portfolio that made me competitive enough to sign with one of the best agencies in Utah.
Since then, I have acted in a good amount of commercials and I am still involved with independent films in the area.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been an interesting road to say the least, the biggest struggles have been learning to understand/integrate the dynamic of close rate when it comes to auditions. It was a bit discouraging at first until I reframed the situation in terms of the audition being the actual job, and if I booked the job that was an awesome bonus.
That being said, for me the audition was an opportunity to allow the director to discover new ways to approach the character that most likely they didn’t even know too much about by then. For me to be able to help them discover the character through me felt like a great opportunity.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an actor. There is a tendency to be selected for antagonistic roles, which I came to enjoy.
I believe that my responsibility as the antagonist to the story is to integrate all of those aspects that make this evil character evil, in a way that the character believes that what he is doing is his purpose and that in a way he is being good. I am confident that is what makes a villain believable and unique.
I also strive to charm the audience and break the pattern of them thinking that they need to dislike me, creating that contrast is one of my biggest enjoyments.
