Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridget Carpenter.
Hi Bridget, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I went to massage school on a whim back in 2007. I had a 3-month-old little boy and figured it would give me a short break from him every night, and who knows? I might like it. That turned out to be the best decision of my life.
Fast forward 5 years and I was divorced with 3, 5, and 6-year-old boys and because of massage, I was able to support my little family without having to work myself to death. I love everything about massage, I’ve spent the majority of my career at a big franchise spa, but also spent time at the airport and doing corporate chair massage.
In January of 2020, I was blessed to marry an amazing new man and we welcomed a baby girl in March of 2022. She has been my motivating force to finally open my clinic so last October, I quit my day job, rented an office, and haven’t looked back.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My life has been nothing but obstacles. After my divorce, we had to live in a DV shelter for a month and a half. At the time, I was working 6 AM shifts at a spa in the Airport. I would have to get up 3 little boys at 4 AM and take them to a babysitter. There were days I didn’t even find someone to watch them till the night before.
My biggest struggle has been with my mental health, I struggle with Tourettes, anxiety, and depression so every day is a new battle. Massage has been my saving grace. I always say there’s no stress in massage, providing therapy is just as relaxing to me as receiving.
Since opening my current business, things have built up slower than I’d hoped, but I’m so grateful that I jumped all in and love every session I get to give.
As you know, we’re big fans of Hurts So Good Bodywork and Massage. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My passion for massage is helping people out of pain. I love giving a relaxing massage but feel there needs to be more to it, I want the benefits to last past the table.
My specialty is working with clients who suffer from repetitive use injury, whether from age or occupation. Office and computer work along with time can cause a lot of tension to build up and I strive to loosen muscles so my clients can live life to its fullest.
A regular massage is like a tune-up in a car, and our body machines need more tune-ups as they get older. I specialize in treating people as individuals so they get exactly what they need. I don’t want anyone to get a “cookie-cutter” experience.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Lindon is small, but the people and atmosphere are great! They have a beautiful aquatics center and a little boutique market regularly in the community center. They share a chamber of commerce with Pleasant Grove where I live.
Pleasant Grove has Strawberry Days in June, it’s the longest-running small-town celebration in the state!
The cities run together and feel like living and working in a small town while still having the conveniences of a bigger city. It is the best of both worlds!
