Meet Megan Sewell of Wild Sage Acupuncture

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Sewell.

Hi Megan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I entered the realm of the healing arts as a bright-eyed and open-hearted youth in the early 2000s. My journey has been nothing short of the entire myriad of emotional experiences one can have.

I haven’t strayed too far from the path over the last 2 decades and I rely heavily on a daily practice of self-care for my physical and mental wellbeing. I have encountered many healers and teachers in the realm of Chinese/Asian Medicine and Native American Medicine that has shaped me into who I am today as a healer myself. My overall goals are to alleviate and tend to the suffering of people.

My current business and license allow me to practice acupuncture and lifestyle coaching every day in my clinic, Wild Sage Acupuncture. I have gravitated to the arenas of Fertility, Chronic Pain, and Psychological Stress. I enjoy seeing the benefits of this medicine in the positive stories of new pregnancies, regulated cycles, less pain, and tension, or a more relaxed and joyful outlook on life. I tailor my treatments to meet the stated goals of all my patients and feel uplifted by the community I am a part of and generating. Salt Lake City has been an awesome place to live!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Is any road smooth? Heck no! We all deal with some sort of difficulty in life, and yet what has always remained is the choosing faculty we all possess. Some of my struggles have been more in the realm of mental health, and I am familiar with the states of discomfort we can get into when we aren’t living a balanced life.

My whole mission is to allow all the emotions to flow and yet not get caught up in a spiral that leads to self-sabotage or self-negating behaviors. I vow to serve my own heart, to pay attention to what has to mean for me, and to show up to life with an attitude of optimism. This mindset has helped me immensely.

We’ve been impressed with Wild Sage Acupuncture, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Wild Sage was birthed out of a necessity to fulfill a dream I have always carried within. I have to do things my way, in a sense that is also difficult because I am on the hook for all the risks, gains, and failures that I will encounter.

Business aside, which is a huge part of my daily thoughts, I also am a Licensed Acupuncturist and Clinician in my business. I am the business, so to speak, and I strive to create a positive and healing impact on my community members. I have already talked about what I specialize in, so that’s been said…

I feel I am set apart from others in the way that I am interested in how people relate to their stated health concerns and not simply what the symptoms are. In my conversations with patients, we discover how past experiences inform the present situation and how we can truly heal, and the level of the mind and soul when we shed light on the impact our experiences have had on us. I am not a therapist, yet I am working with the subtle energies of the body that influence the mind.

And then some patients are here for their pain or infertility and we don’t need to go into the emotional level if they aren’t leading me in that direction. I honor and respect each person as a whole and capable and hold that highest truth when I work in any realm of body mind spirit.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I have had many mentors, yes! Too many to count!

Some big ones are Char Sundust, Chris Axelrad, and Tiffany Carole. All have helped me see myself as a powerful creator, someone capable of a big impact, and taught me things in the realm of the healing arts, energy medicine, and functional medicine.
