Today we’d like to introduce you to Wuta Beta.
Hi Wuta, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Every barbecue attendee’s curiosity spikes upon smelling the food they will be eating. Unfortunately, from time to time these guests do what every griller hates, they open the lid to see what’s cooking.
I got so frustrated that this had happened yet again at a barbecue I was hosting, that I immediately took to the internet to find a solution to my reoccurring issue. I searched for anything close to a “do not open” sign that I could place on my grill. Then, in a flash of inspiration, I decided to take matters into my own hands, and GrillMagz was born.
As an initial idea to keep people from opening the grill, my creativity and imagination expanded to design products that any grill owner could relate to, as well as enhance their grilling experience. Every griller knows that their grill is the centerpiece to their outdoor cooking experience so I created GrillMagz as a brand that represents that.
GrillMagz’s #1 priority is to represent the barbecue community by promoting individuality, creativity, and fun by providing you with the latest in GrillMagz swag!
Currently, I work as a CNA at the Salt Lake City Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. I am also currently in nursing school studying to become a registered nurse.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Creating a product and building a brand has not been easy. Initially, there was a lot of excitement and momentum from friends and family but reaching a larger audience, especially within my niche has been difficult. The main struggles are marketing and producing sales.
Learning how to run ad campaigns and learning the different marketing avenues that produce sales has been difficult. I’ve had the most success though by getting on the ground and selling at farmers markets and other vendor events.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking.
I love taking risks!
One thing that I tell myself when it comes to making what one could consider a risky decision is “Why not?” I never want to ask myself “What if I tried that?” so I find a way to do it. Starting my business was a risk in and of itself so I consider myself a risk taker.
