Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Snyder.
Taylor, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Maternal & Infant Health Consulting (M&IHC) is a social impact consulting firm founded by Taylor Marie Snyder, MPH. Taylor started the company shortly after moving to Utah, in January of 2014. The company emerged after months of informational interviews and desk research led her to the conclusion that: there were no companies focused on bridging the gap between research and implementation to advance global health based in Utah.
Taylor graduated with her Master of Public Health (MPH) in Maternal and Child Health and Global Health Certificate from UNC-Chapel Hill, where she received the US Government’s Maternal and Child Health Bureau Leadership Trainee Award. Taylor spent seven years in a volunteer board leadership position with the Planned Parenthood Association of Utah (PPAU).
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Working in global public health during the start of the COVID-19 global pandemic meant that all in-person research we were supporting had to be halted. However, unexpectedly, M&IHC doubled in size in 2020, which we attribute to our work in digital health. We had close relationships with trusted clients who trusted us to “fly the plane as we were building it”. We cared the most and we worked hard to make an impact despite new and changing obstacles.
So, we figured things out! We figured out how to recruit research participants and hold interviews via phone. This was ethically tricky because we were speaking about sensitive topics such as family planning and sex. With the mantra of “first, do no harm”, we were able to design and execute interesting research in multiple countries that supported people’s access to reproductive health and nutritional commodities and services.
We’ve been impressed with Maternal & Infant Health Consulting, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
