Today we’d like to introduce you to Ty Andersen.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Choosing to take photography passionately and seriously opens up your eyes to see all the beauty that is out there! Every season every month every week every day photography gives you the option of something to look at and appreciate! There’s a Lotta cool things out there!
And, for me, a lot of them happen to be in the heart of the storm! It’s amazing how much the world changes when it rains. The Utah desert comes alive with smells thicker than grandma’s cookin’ and colors richer than Scrooge McDuck! With views as cinematic and Hollywood! UH!
There is nothing like being in the storm! Having love and zest for living life made pursuing storms and diving deep into walls of water exhilarating! I have been searching out secret waterfalls and swimming holes for some time now but choosing this amazing life of flash flood waterfalls has changed me!
And there is no going back. My name is Ty Andersen. And I chase… Flash flood waterfalls!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Pursuing photography passionately and professionally is always daunting! But wow what a beautiful life! Being compelled to see all the wonderful things in life is rough wink, wink!
Telling your employer, that you can’t work when it rains cause you chase storms and flash flood waterfalls is always a fun conversation!
Have taken out some vehicles!
Cameras sent sailing off cliff ledges
Drones broken.
Shots missed!
Gash and slice screams in the wild.
I imagine every photographer goes through this!
Photography is a grind! But we got it easy cause we love what we do!
Check this shot out.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a bartender at Spiritual Parlor St. George, Utah, and a bartender at Cowboys and Angels in Springdale Zion National Park. I also chase Flash Flood Waterfalls, and Secret Waterfalls, and sell my unique photos and experiences.
How do you think about luck?
I am pretty sure I am the luckiest person on earth! I’m not sure how but I think it could be a superpower!
Sometimes my luck comes from bad scenarios that happen and I “just” happen to figure it out and get lucky.
Sometimes things land in my lap! So, I’m debating whether or not I’m lucky or if luck is equally across on both sides of the board and I’m just human… but good lord seriously I could probably be top tier for the luckiest person on earth.
