Hi Missy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It began about 10 years ago, born from a blend of my mother’s love and my creative spirit. I crafted a wreath using coffee filters to fund my daughter Madeline’s humanitarian trip to India, not realizing it was the start of something bigger.
The wreaths have a unique charm, which increased when I started accenting them with colorful ribbons. I purchased most of my ribbon from stores that were closing and began scouring the Salt Lake Valley for more. Eventually, I bought out their ribbon stocks to ensure a supply as demand for my wreaths grew.
My personal story quickly gained popularity. This was more than just crafting; it was about creating connections and sharing stories.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wasn’t a smooth journey. Transitioning from an attic project to a full-fledged business with over 50 employees created numerous challenges.
Balancing creativity with the practicalities of running a business has been a steep learning curve, and I’m still navigating it. Growing product demand required me to continuously innovate and adapt, blending the uniqueness and quality of our crafted products with traditional home decor items.

First and foremost, our aim at Knot + Spool is to ensure that our customers thoroughly enjoy themselves. Numerous customers have expressed to me and my staff that they consider Knot + Spool to be their happy place. We are widely recognized for our distinctive coffee filter wreaths and our innovative RIBBON SET™. Our specialty lies in assembling and combining ribbons to enhance the beauty of our wreaths, providing a means for customers to express their personalities through their chosen ribbons.
Additionally, we allow our customers to select their ribbons, complemented by our expert guidance and advice to aid them in making the best choices. What truly distinguishes us is our commitment to creating not just products, but personalized experiences. The aspect I am most proud of is our ability to connect with our customers on a personal level, transforming their narratives into beautiful, tangible creations that enrich their happy place.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My success is rooted in countless hours of hard work, the ability to adapt, and a team that truly cares. Prioritizing our customers’ needs is key, but even more crucial is how we support each other. I’m deeply appreciative of the support I’ve received from my team.
