Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Sedona.
Hi Emily, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Three years ago, I was freshly sober, broke, and bored. With nothing to lose, I packed up my Corolla with my dog and my camping gear and set out to travel the USA. I spent the next few months documenting my travels on social media.
One day, while camping in Montana, I filmed a “car tour” for Tiktok. The video demonstrated how I transformed my tiny sedan into a living space for Yeti and I. 9 million views later, and that video changed my life forever. Since then, I have been to every state in the continental US, using my income from social media to upgrade to a van.
I travel 6 months out of the year now, and call Maine my home base. I document my life on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. It’s fun for me. I feel really lucky.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In July, I celebrated 3 years sober from drugs and alcohol. It’s been a long road. I feel like enough time has passed where I can look back with gratitude. But for years it was really hard. I felt like I was missing a part of myself without substances.
When I first got sober, I quite literally lived in my mom’s basement. After moping around for almost a year, that’s when I decided to pack my car to go “find myself”. What I thought would just be a fun road trip, truly changed the course of my life.
I celebrated one year sober in the Eastern Sierras. I remember feeling so happy and connected with nature in that moment. Like things had worked out just the way they were meant to. So, in a way, I feel like sobriety was the catalyst for my new career- and definitely for a better life.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m getting close to a million followers on TikTok. It truly feels surreal! That’s where I share cozy morning routines, travel tips, and funny stories. But lately, I’ve been putting a lot of time into YouTube. To me, it’s cool to have things to look back on. My mom still has all the home videos she filmed when I was a kid in the 90s and early 2000s. It’s so fun just to see what we were up to back then!
I feel like there isn’t a lot of documentation like that now. That’s why I started vlogging on YouTube- to document my life! The longer format vlogs give a real insight into my every day. I post everything there- day trips, DIYs, makeup tutorials, whatever!
I just like to film my day. I have also built an amazing Patreon community where the vlogs continue, but are more podcast format. I like to sit down in front of the camera and chat about my goals, funny things happening in my life, etc. Think of things you would call your best friend up to chat about. I call them secret vlogs! Patreon is also the only place I give the locations of my campsites – so if you’re ever wondering where I am, you can find it there!
