Meet Jennifer Holmes of Holmes Haven

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Holmes.

Jennifer Holmes

Jennifer, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I went through a period in middle school where I didn’t have a group of friends. I spent a lot of weekends on dates with my parents because all of my siblings were out with friends. So my parents would take me on their dates. Sounds so embarrassing and sad but this is actually when my love for creating was founded. I would spend all my free time sewing and creating. At the age of 14, it was my dream to sell my things for a boutique.

Life got busy. I played soccer, was in a great group of friends, and school was tough. So that took over my life. My days consisted of soccer and school.

I graduated from high school and went and played college soccer for a year. Then, I went on an 18-month mission serving for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Los Angeles. The stress of the rigorous schedule got to me and I developed a ton of anxiety. It was something I felt I would deal with for the rest of my life. But I continued to serve and have a great love for the people I served and served with.

Coming home I started school at BYU right away. I got married 4 months after being home from my mission. Life was still stressful but amazing at the same time. Creating was my outlet. Especially after having kids. It is something I can do for myself. Which for some reason is something I need.

I turned this passion into a business. Holmes Haven. I use my Laser Machine to create home decor in hopes that my customers can make their homes feel like their Haven. I am still growing and learning and hope one day it helps my family feel a little more stable.

I am a busy mom with two little boys. My dream has always been to create and be a mom and I am so glad that I get to do them both.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all. I have had a journey trying to figure out what I want to sell. I’ve done crocheted blankets, bows, garlands, homemade kids’ clothes, and embroidered blankets. And I’ve landed on laser-cut items. Which I love!

I’m still trying to figure out the ins and outs of things and growing my audience and views on Etsy. It’s a learning experience

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Holmes Haven?
Holmes Haven is my own Etsy Shop. It’s small but I hope to grow and sell at several boutiques and send my items around the world. I currently sell laser-cut items, banners, and some apparel.

My items are unique but trendy. This last Christmas I sold my Ratan Nativity scene on Etsy. I haven’t seen anything else like it but Ratan is big right now and my customers loved that they could put such a special piece in their home that went with their home decor.

I am proud of my ideas and creations. I hope to be able to create more unique and trendy things that customers will love in their homes.

Any big plans?
I have always wanted to sell my stuff at local boutiques. This will be the first year I feel like I am in a place to do so.

I am hoping that this year my business will be able to benefit my family so that we can experience fun things together and feel flexible financially.
