Life & Work with Connie Sokol

Today we’d like to introduce you to Connie Sokol.

Connie Sokol

Hi Connie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
For years, I’ve felt a draw to help women find their purpose and then get the skills to fulfill it. As I sought for how to do that, opportunities began opening to speak for conferences, write books, start programs, do TV, host a podcast, etc. It sounds a + b = c but it was more like a quadratic equation! But I kept at it, refining the tools to teach the women and helping them get their toolbelt.

Now it’s been 30 years that I’ve been a national speaker, bestselling author, podcast host, TV contributor, and founder of the Disciple Thought Leaders. I’ve also refined the process to teach other women how to get those same skills. I teach the skills through my Disciple Thought Leadership Retreats and the Disciple Thought Leadership Circle (certification program). Women have been certified as speakers, created online courses and communities, hosted podcasts, written books, and hosted retreats and events.

All of it helps them get their purpose-driven messages out to the people who need them. And just as importantly, the women have created personal and professional friendships with each other at these retreats and in the program that are lifelong and so nurturing. And, they’ve been able to do this while keeping their families first, and doing it through the lens of For Him.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
So many struggles! I would start something, then have a baby. Then get back to it and someone would get sick, have difficulties, we would move, or some life-changing event would happen. I dealt with self-doubt and imposter syndrome, no funds or low funds, wearing too many hats, not knowing skills, and trying to find the right people.

But I kept coming back to that original rumble of a vision and the divine downloads I would get along the way. And somehow, with the right people and course corrections, I’ve been able to get here to this fantastic place of helping women find their purpose and fulfill it as a speaker, writer, and media presence, for Him.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a professional speaker, writer, and media presence, I specialize in helping women step up and speak up. To effectively speak the message they feel soul-driven to share. I think what sets me apart is that I’ve learned how to do all three and do it partnering with God. Some people speak, some podcast, some write, and some are social media influencers. But I’ve had to learn to do all three because, in this day and age, you need that triple-prong approach.

And, with seven kids I’ve had to life hack the process along the way. That’s made it signature because what would normally take five years takes one, or one year takes 3 months. Needing to shorten the process has not just blessed my life but now hundreds of others. The other thing I’m most proud of besides my family is that I’ve helped women become a better, happier, more skilled version of themselves. They are confident and clear. They see their worth and their capabilities.

And they now confidently and proactively share their thoughts and selves to bless the lives of those around them. It’s THRILLING to see a woman get a glimpse of her grandeur, of all the talent and capacity within her. And then help her coax it out to then become stunning, inside and out. It’s pure joy!

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
So many amazing people, particularly those stalwart few who, like Frodo and Sam, worked shoulder to shoulder to keep this thing going all these years. People like Jill Holmes and LeMira Wheelwright who wore more admin/tech/media hats than you can number, worked tirelessly and at odd hours, and had absolutely faith this would work.

Then the women themselves who took a chance on the retreats and programs like Wendy Jones and Jen Brewer. They jumped in, rode the rollercoaster, and are now doing fabulous things in their lives: Wendy Jones started at the retreat at one point in a fetal position over social media and feeling overwhelmed at the thought of helping underserved women in her community remake their spaces for better use, health, and happiness.

Fast forward to six months after that retreat, she hosted her first retreat with 22 women. Then got a team. Then national sponsors. And now she and her husband have been called to a leadership service mission but her team is so well run that they can continue in her absence. That’s the absolute best!
