Life & Work with Cyndie Patri

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Cyndie Patri.

Cyndie Patri

Hi Cyndie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
When my oldest daughter was 3 years old, I decided I wanted to learn something new. I get bored easily, and she was a pretty easy toddler, so I felt I had the time to learn something new. After graduating, I delved fully into portrait work after moving to Utah.

Since then, I’ve been taking more courses and workshops to always keep up with the new technologies and techniques related to lighting, photography and editing. I love dedicating a lot of time to my clients, and also my family, so I keep my schedule pretty simple and book only a few clients per month.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Overall, it has been a smooth road. The most challenging part is that I am very self-critical of my work and a perfectionist. But I’ve learned that if I wait for perfection, I’ll never begin or try something new.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in portraiture. Many of my clients have told me they ultimately booked me because they like how clean my work is, and they love how my portraits have an extra something they haven’t found anywhere else.

They also love the time I spend planning their session, how much we communicate, and how involved I am from the first consultation until I hang their portraits on their walls.

We’re always looking for lessons that can be learned from any situation, including tragic ones like the COVID-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
One of the things I learned is that the time for pictures is now. We’ve lost so many people and some times we don’t even have a picture of them because of insecurities. I will say, moms are the ones who usually are not in the images, because we are so hard on ourselves.

I also learned the importance of solid business: pricing yourself correctly, knowing your worth, and openly communicating with your clients.
