Today, we’d like to introduce you to Samson Osime.
Hi Samson, we are so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
For as long as I can remember, I have loved talking and making new friends. The idea of starting a podcast came to me when I realized that there were a lot of different aspects of my friend’s lives that I didn’t know about. I have always been an avid listener of different podcasts, and I’ve always enjoyed the idea of sitting down and having conversations. The only difference is that you’re actually recording it.
And so I realized that I wanted a place where I could openly discuss hard topics or conversations that bring different opinions and perspectives but at the same time be able to share that with people, and the answer to that was a podcast. I wanted a place where people felt that they could voice their opinions and share their perspectives on three specific topics: religious relationships and self-reflection or growth.
At 23 years old, I feel like these are the topics that young adults in our society carry various beliefs, opinions, and ideas, and I wanted to be able to see that and talk about it. I want to continue to do it because, to me, it’s kind of like my journal. I like to think of it as a collection of entries of conversations that I have with friends, professionals, and guests!!
Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
In the very beginning, it was a little rough. I am currently a full time student attending BYU Provo, I worked very closely as a manager this last two years for the men’s basketball team, and I’m currently preparing to apply to the marketing program in the Marriott School of Business.
So one of the main struggles I had when I wanted to start this podcast was finding the time and resources to do so, as I’m the one filming, hosting, producing, and editing. I’m someone who likes to produce quality content and at the beginning it very much felt like I wouldn’t have the time necessary to dedicate in order to produce something that people would actually be interested in taking 30 to 40 minutes out of their day to listen or watch.
But at the end of the day, my desire to create something positive for the community and my passion to know the stories of others drove me to create a way and a plan to be able to proceed. And so, before I even released my first episode, I had already filmed three to four episodes. As I am now in a routine, it has become a little easier to manage.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As of right now I am currently a full time student at BYU Provo where I worked as a sports manager for the basketball team there. But what I consider my work and what I’m known for is music. I am proud of the fact that am able to make music.
About three years ago, I started producing and creating music and I’m actually a verified artist on all music platforms from Spotify to Apple Music to YouTube. I just love creating things, seeing as I created a podcast, but something about being able to write your emotions and write your life in a way that other people can relate and find joy from or invoke emotions from the listener is a beautiful thing that I love doing. I would say something that sets me apart from others is my drive and my ability to learn and do a lot.
I do not like to just have a certain type of skill set. Because of this I’ve been able to learn so much from cooking to how to code a website to photography. Some of my friends consider me a jack of all trades, and I would like to think that I dedicate enough time and have enough passion to eventually become a master of some.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
To be honest I see the creative space whether it’s podcasts or music, I definitely feel that there is going to be a big shift. For podcasts I would like to think that they would grow in popularity and I think they have over the last couple of years and I would like to think that in the next 5 to 10 years a lot of people go to podcasts for information because I think that is real life experience that is being discussed with real life people.
The development of AI makes me think that a lot of people are leaning away from podcasts and stuff like that and just turning to the internet. However, I think that podcasts will continue to grow in popularity over time.
