Hi Jacque’, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In July 2022… I flew into Chicago, IL, to attend the WNBA All-Star weekend with hopes of seeing a lot of the women athletes that I admire and one day would get the chance to play alongside them. July 10th, 2022, I raised my hand in the crowd and asked, “When is the WNBA coming to the city of Philadelphia?” & a lady replied that they already had a team back in the 90s called “The Philadelphia Rage” & that she played for them.
I just thought in my mind at that moment… “Huh? Rage?” It should have been called “Rain” for abundance & buckets! I thought to myself, that’s where they made their first mistake. She then proceeded to inform the crowd that the WNBA actually has walk-on/try-out opportunities with four different teams & one of them being my dream team, the LA Sparks!
My heart exploded in my chest with excitement at the resurrected chance for me to live out my life-long dream to play professional basketball since the age of 6! I enjoyed watching WNBA & Olympic legends like Lisa Leslie, Dawn Staley (My Dream Coach) & Sheryl Swoopes! Shout out to the last two women mentioned; it was an honor and privilege to meet you both & secure your autographs that All-Star weekend! “Oh, it was a happy day!” Sci-Fi said.
After leaving Chi-Town, I knew what I was going to do as soon as I got back to Philly. I decided to close my multi-award winning business, Another Planet Barber Shop, LLC “Hair Out Of This World!”, with over 300 five-star reviews to pursue my first love… basketball! On August 12th, 2022, I celebrated six years in that location @ renowned 808 South St & told my landlord that I would not be renewing for a 7th year. Following that, I announced on all my social media platforms that I would be closing the shop & going mobile, launching Another Planet Barber Shuttle, LLC “Brings The Shop To You!” wherever I ended up moving to next!
So, in secret, I packed up my condo on the 13th floor in Center City, & stayed at the Four Seasons for two nights. There, I bumped into Jimmy Butler coming out of the elevator! And the next morning I was in the right place at the right time, again, in the sky gym & worked out with the NBA Miami Heat players before they played our home team Philadelphia 76ers!
Celebrating my conquering of the city, I swam in the infinity pool on the 57th floor, where the views of Philadelphia were absolutely breathtaking! After check out, I caught a one-way flight to sunny California on a mission to conquer my innate passion for the game of basketball. Before my physical departure leaving the City of Brotherly Love, my recently paid-in-full trophy, a 2017 Chevy Corvette Convertible & 2,400 cubic feet worth of my belongings were sent off to meet me in California.
Once arriving in LA on Feb. 28th, 2023, I have spent well over $35,000 on transporting & storing everything across the country!! I had made multiple attempts to connect with my “Dream Team” but came up short with no response after all my efforts to secure my try-out before the season started. I technically became officially homeless on Feb. 26th, 2023, when I gave my condo keys back to Franklin Tower Residences. During the six months in California, I spent the remainder of my money on 3 Airbnb’s and one hotel, where I stayed for three weeks.
I checked out of the Travelodge hotel on April 25th, 2023 & this night would be my first official night sleeping in my Corvette. This voyage lasted for a long three months of isolation with God. I would shower at YMCA & Planet Fitness after working out, building muscle & still training for my basketball opportunity if it were to ever present itself in Cali, but unfortunately, it had not… Along my journey in the “wilderness,” I have had a few generous people help me financially, along with temporary places to rest my head and stretch out my body in an actual bed!
Dec. 5th, 2023, five days before my 34th birthday, was when I was blessed to sign my new lease & move into my now ground-level apartment here in Provo, Utah! Moving here was so random… but I knew this was God’s doing, and I just had to obey. Here, I am safe now. This place is serene, clean, and peaceful, with majestic yet humbling views of these gorgeous mountains at every turn.
It’s most definitely been a tremendous change from skyline city views to sleeping in my Corvette, which I deemed “luxury homelessness,” a change that I never knew that I truly needed to experience. But God knows all, and we must trust Him along our journeys because even in the darkness, He will guide and illuminate your transitions. I, Sci-Fi, would suggest if you’re going through difficulties of any sort, stay in prayer and worship Him, & He will see you to your promised land!
Now, after two months of settling into my new blessing at the foothills of the mountains… on Feb. 22nd, 2024, I have officially launched Another Planet Barber Club, “Confidence Past The Galaxy’s Edge!” where I now offer “Phone Home”/House Calls starting at $250, or they can come to me in Provo to be serviced in my Club House at regular patron pricing. I am still operating by appointment only & awaiting my first celebrity client here in UT to add to the previous 21 celebrities I have serviced in PA!
It’s to infinity and beyond from here!! I still have plans for the future to buy a shuttle bus and convert that into a mobile barbershop! I would love to find a platform other than GoFundMe to help aid in that major buy and build-out for this project!

Currently, I am a Personal Training Skills Coach at Shoot360, “The Future Of Basketball” in Lehi, Utah & I just got offered a coaching gig for the Utah Jazz kids’ camps and clinics! Here, I am now pouring my admiration & expertise with 28 years of basketball experience into the upcoming generations! As I nurture these basketball seeds I am planting in these coachable players, I am waiting patiently for God to reveal more of my purpose here in Utah.
Just the other day, I got offered to referee for the first time! I got to get a new whistle!
In the meantime, I will knock on the doors of my basketball dreams! To be continued…
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
During my homelessness, I was utterly alone in the “wilderness,” & I suffered from severe depression, though my spirit was still focused on God & His plan for my life.
I barely had money for food, at one point I unintentionally fasted for three days! I had my belongings in storage for eight months, living out of my suitcases and with two weeks’ worth of clothes I consistently washed and recycled. One night I fell asleep while washing clothes and I got robbed. My Corvette still has deep imprints from the weight of the luggage on my passenger seat. The battery I had drained dead & I had to jump my Corvette over 30 times to get to wheverever I needed to go! Until one day, I did a bartar service & got a new battery for a haircut!
Sleeping upright for three months most definitely took a major toll on my body, but once I hit a bed again, it was truly a miracle! I remember not having money for gas, and a stranger gave me $20, and she pumped it for me. Another time, when I did not know how I was going to eat, God told me to get out of my Corvette and walk.
While walking, I stumbled across another $20 and a Mario mushroom (power up) tag to celebrate that “small” win! I ate my favorite sardines out of the can & mangos to have something sweet during the bitter streets of Long Beach & Los Angeles. I had attempted to work at two salons & 3 barbershops before deciding to revamp my business & start afresh in Utah.

I am most proud of the resilience, perseverance, tenacity & zeal I have for this life on Earth. I cannot and will not ever give up on my heart desires until I see them manifested in front of my eyes. My faith is an everlasting currency that has gotten me through the valleys of life & gives me the strength to continue to climb up new mountains and scale new heights with God as my core center; I know I can do all things! Philippians 4:11-13 I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me.
What sets me apart from others is my bubbly & youthful personality, which brings out the inner child in others & constantly confuses the masses about my true age! I am 34, but yet when I ask people how old I look, they tend to guess low and say 23 years old?! Even more obvious, I would say, would be my unapologetically adoration for my Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ!
I most recently received my custom Utah license plate that reads “GODSKID” it’s still in the plastic because I am covered by God grace! Haha, Get it? & bumper sticker that says “Powered by JESUS” on the back of my Corvette. I am an openly masculine-presenting lesbian female celebrity barber in a cyst male-dominated industry. Nov. 11th 2018, I was asked by Major League Barbers to be a hair competition judge & there I was the youngest & only female on the judging panel. I have also overcome pre-judgmental obstacles by winning Top Rated Local 2019, beating all the boys & placing #1 in over 300 barber shops in the state of PA!
I am in the process of securing my barber instructors license here in UT! Another Planet Barber Academy will breathe life soon but ONLINE for anyone around the world to learn & become “Sci-Fi Certified” ✅️
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I have been told I have “Good JuJu” lol I have a gift of foresight (seeing & speaking on things before they happen) and finding resolutions for a multitude of problems for people. They say, I have the answer for everything, or I will find it.
I am an Earth Angel & I am a natural healer through my healing hands and loving God-like aura. People who encounter my love have been set free of illnesses, diseases, and other ailments that they can attest to. Ask them.
