Meet Lorin Smith of Good Gluten Free Grub

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Lorin Smith.

Lorin Smith

Lorin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2016, I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. I felt alone and went through lots of trial and error to get to where I am now. Then, in 2021, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Another drastic life change to learn. I now help other celiacs, new and old, learn how to eat safely, enjoy gluten-free food, and thrive with this new autoimmune disease.

I love partnering with fun, innovative brands that serve the gluten-free community and bring hope to those struggling to find joy in their gluten-free life! I am a private consultant, party planner, and podcast host. Sharing my journey with others has been so fun for me, and I hope you’ll join the gluten-free gang and follow along!

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The unique trials that come with both of these diseases are hard to explain to someone who doesn’t live with the disease themselves. Anything food-related is emotionally and mentally taxing.

Trying to advocate for your needs on a daily basis gets extremely exhausting and frustrating when others don’t take your dietary needs seriously. It is very easy to get discouraged and feel like you will never live a normal life. It takes a lot of time and practice to practice self-advocacy. It is possible, though!

This aspect of gluten-free living is something I cover in great detail in my coaching calls.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
In 2021, I started my 1-on-1 consulting business because I saw a need for it. I desperately needed some type of coaching when I was diagnosed with Celiac in 2016. The resources were so limited then. My coaching calls are catered to the needs of each individual client while giving them the education they need to succeed with this new disease or lifestyle.

These coaching calls bring me so much joy because the difference someone feels at the beginning of the call compared to after is amazing to watch. Clients leave the call with all the right tools in their belts and a long list of resources to help them navigate all the new experiences they are going to have. And I am here to assist them the whole time.

Beyond my role as a coach, I am a dynamic force in the podcasting sphere, serving as the host of an insightful show centered on gluten-free education and the intersection with type one diabetes living. The Good Gluten Free Grub Podcast. Through engaging conversations, I empower listeners with knowledge, practical tips, and heartfelt stories, fostering a sense of belonging and understanding within the gluten-free and diabetic communities.

In addition to my digital presence, I extend my passion for gluten-free advocacy to the physical realm by organizing inclusive events in my local community. These gatherings offer a haven where individuals can enjoy delicious, 100% gluten-free food in a safe and supportive environment, fostering connections and camaraderie among attendees.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
