Conversations with Sophie Dennis

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Sophie Dennis.

Sophie Dennis

Hi Sophie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I have loved photography since I was a sophomore in high school. My best friend got a camera for Christmas that year and started showing me how it worked, so I purchased one of my own. I started photographing anything I could, but I especially loved photographing people.

In my second year of college, I began studying photography at Brigham Young University and built my own wedding photography business. I have learned so much about running a business and being creative.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been easy.

I struggled with Imposter Syndrome, feeling like I would never be good enough and that there were too many people who were better than me. I also had no idea how to begin at first, but I met many people along the way who supported me and showed me the right things to do.

I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a luxury wedding photographer. I love capturing emotion in the story of weddings and helping people feel that love in their photos. I also love incorporating artistic cinematic styles into my imagery. I often play with camera settings, lighting, and coloring to tell these stories.

I am proud of my ability to think creatively on the spot and make the most of any situation I may be shooting in. I have also begun learning film photography and love adding film to the photos I deliver to clients. This is a unique thing that not many photographers do.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I remember spending summers with my family in Driggs, ID. Those summers are golden and wonderful, full of warm days and fun trips to the swimming pool, the Teton Mountains, and the local ice cream shop.
