Meet Melody Bodily of Salt Lake City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melody Bodily

Hi Melody , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always loved making things since I was a little kid. I was lucky enough to have an incredible art teacher while in high school who helped me explore various mediums and styles and ultimately introduced me to an incredible ceramics teacher. Once out of high school I kept exploring different art mediums and created Rove & Bloom. I started with fibre arts such as weaving and embroidering and then went on to resin and then polymer clay. About 2 years ago I was able to find a local ceramic studio where I could join as a member and ultimately switched my business over to just ceramics!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I quickly learned that Salt Lake City has an incredible art community and I was immediately welcomed and able to build friendships and business relationships.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love non traditional ceramics and mostly focus on pastel colors and bold patterns. I specialize in very kitschy niche things that bring joy. I am best known for my disco snails & hand painted checker patterns. Lately I have found my art shifting with the seasons and I have started making garden inspired mugs and trinket dishes.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I believe that the ceramics industry is going to continue to shift in a non traditional way. As younger artists emerge they will continue mixing traditional techniques with non traditional glazes and styles.
