Today we’d like to introduce you to Alec Sargent
Alec, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have been working with and around heavy machinery most of my life. My family owned a sawmill and logging operation, so at a young age, heavy equipment was a big part of my life. As I entered my 20’s, I worked for several companies that were focused on excavation work. I have always been playing in the dirt!
I have gravitated towards heavy machinery because I feel it is an extension of my body at this point. Getting in the equipment rental industry has been a phenomenal experience because I can take one of the things I am passionate about and combine that with a customer interaction experience. There is nothing more satisfying then being able to be a part of the journey for homeowners and contractors when they are tackling their projects at home or on the job. I feel like I had something to do with their success and I pour a lot of time in making sure the customer is placed first and is being set up for success using my equipment.
We work long days all season, and a lot of that time during the day is spent having conversations with customers, making sure they have the right tool for the job. They know with us, their hard earned money goes further every time!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest struggle as a small business owner is understanding you can’t be in 10 places at once. I want to give everyone I deal with the attention they deserve and a lot of the time it stretches me to thin. Understanding when to make those vertical moves within your business to better increase your output, will show 10x further down the road. We strive to perform at a high standard for our customers, so its imperative our business is structured to be able to do so.
We’ve been impressed with Iron Horse Equipment Rentals LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a veteran owned heavy equipment and tool rental company based in Heber City, UT. We service all of Wasatch and Summit counties. We offer a variety of earth moving equipment, platform lifts, small tools, and so much more.
We are certainly know for our “easy rental process”. Our customers know that when they request a piece of equipment, we will work our hardest to get them what they need, when they need it. It happens quickly and it allows the customer to trust us when they are busy dealing with the actual project.
Iron Horse Equipment Rentals is built around the community. Our slogan is “Powered by community. Fueled by locals.” When we say that, we certainly mean it! We are apart of the community and understand the cost and burden associated with projects. Our goal is to make the experience easy and ultimately help the customer get the most they can with their money. It always goes further with Iron Horse!
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I believe that luck has played a big part in the business! We have been extremely lucky meeting critical people that have directly influenced and help navigate the hurdles associated with starting a business. Especially starting an equipment rental business. When they say networking is important, that is certainly the truth!
