Today we’d like to introduce you to Leslie Fatai
Hi Leslie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was always surrounded by music growing up. My father was a music man. If he wasn’t traveling and performing with his band, he was singing in quartets, teaching and directing choir at church, or was a DJ at a party function. It was no surprise when my father started involving our family in his gigs.
I’m the oldest of six kids and the one who gravitated towards music. I learned a lot from just watching him play and perform. It helped me develop my ear for music and harmony. My parents supported me when I showed interest in learning to read music. It was interesting to learn to play the piano because hand placement is important in playing the piano and my teacher couldn’t teach me that.
I was blessed with many opportunities to perform. Many of those opportunities have allowed me to share original music I wrote. Since I was born with my hands, having five fingers is all I know. I consider myself a professional adapter if anything. My hands have always prompted me to think outside the box and consider the impossible. I currently run my own music studio and love teaching piano and voice.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to self discovery was hard because I had focused on fitting in and trying to be like everyone else when clearly my hands told me otherwise. I am meant to be different and it’s ok to be different. Self love is more than just loving yourself. It’s finding purpose in your challenges and using them for your good and benefit to help and bless all you come in contact with.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I currently run a small music studio providing services that I’m passionate about. I offer voice and piano lessons as well as run a recording studio. I consider my studio the perfect place for aspiring artists and singer/songwriters to develop their craft.
I’ve been teaching voice since I was young. While kids were playing on the playground, I wanted to sing and would teach my friends harmony so we could sing together. I love to perform, but I found my passion with music is in teaching.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I’m always open to helping other aspiring artists and creatives. I can be reached through my website at Lesliefatai.com. My voice and piano lessons fill up quickly. To be added to the list, contact me on social media or on my website. Something I’ve enjoyed doing to lately is sharing my personal story as a public speaker. So if there’s anyone interested in having me, please reach out.
