Conversations with Terrance Miller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terrance Miller

Hi Terrance , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started bodybuilding with my father in highschool when I was unable to participate in sports due to a heart condition. I then moved on to college and wanted to gain more size since I was very slim weighing 148lbs at 6’2. During that time I saw someone holding a calisthenics skill called the “Planche” and it inspired me to add calisthenics to my routine. Since then I’ve done a hybrid split of calisthenics and bodybuilding and have gained about 72lbs of muscle. I’ve also progressed in calisthenics skills like the handstand, muscle up, front lever, and the planche.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but with consistency and hard work you can achieve anything. I’ve had multiple injuries and gotten sick along the way. When this happens I loose weight and size fast and have to gain it all back. Many people don’t understand how hard it is to gain muscle. When you are naturally skinny with a high metabolism you burn through calories like crazy. This makes gaining weight and size very difficult. You basically have to gain the size then cut the muscle. I would usual dirty bulk to gain as much size and possible and the cut the fat to show the muscle. That’s for bodybuilding. Calisthenics is a whole different animal. Those who are great at calisthenics are short and light weight. Being taller and heavier makes it exponentially harder because of how leavers and physics works. Being 6’4 and 220lbs is unheard of in the calisthenics space. This has brought many challenges and I have to work twice as hard to gain skills others would get in half the time. This has pushed me harder and is more rewarding because it’s so extremely challenging.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
This will come as a surprise. My 9-5 is in cyber security. I’m an Information Security Officer and I work for the government. I can’t say much, but my job is to protect networks and devices from hackers and vulnerabilities.

Social media and coaching are my side gig that bring me joy and happiness. Social media is just fun for me. I enjoy creating and filming content. I randomly run into people asking questions about calisthenics at the gym and I always give free tips and coaching in person when people meet me. So I thought I’d become a coach to help others who can’t learn in person. So I became an online coach to help anyone reach their goals! I do meal plans and body toning all the way to calisthenics skill training and bodybuilding. I create personalized programs for each person based on their specific goals. I have the knowledge and I love sharing that with others and wish I had a coach when I first started. It definitely helps you progress so much quicker when you have someone giving instant feedback especially in calisthenics.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I wouldn’t call it luck. I’d say I’m blessed to be able to work in cyber security and make income from social media. I’m blessed that so many companies have reached out to me and collaborated with me. God has blessed me with many things in life and I’d say hard work pays off. A degree in cyber security takes hard work and growing social media is also hard work, but not all who work at it are successful. I’m blessed to be able to see the result of hard work and good fortune or the blessings of God.
