Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Pennington
Hi Jessica, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As a teenager, my life was turned upside-down, plunging me into a darkness that nearly consumed me. However, a dear friend saw through my facade and saved me from the death I thought I wanted. Moving forward, I found I had a great passion for Events and Event Planning while working at a Conference Center. Shortly after starting there, I began theming my own birthdays, and to my delight, my friends looked forward to the parties as much as I did! Planning these events became my favorite pastime, and I would organize each birthday, months in advance.
Years later, after experiencing multiple miscarriages, we were blessed with our rainbow. While our daughter, and her father, are the loves of my life, I found myself in a place that many mothers know well – feeling lost. I was a mother, a wife, and an employee but what else? I knew I needed a change. I needed to find myself and the happiness that has once lit my way. Thus, In Omnia Paratus Events was born.
Over the past year and a half, my business has flourished, thanks to my wonderful customers and my ability to network and create lasting connections. This year, I am shifting my focus towards business & public events, more than personal home-based events, and I am excited to announce that I am also writing my first book on budget event planning.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Owning a business is rarely a smooth road, and my journey has been no exception. There have been many ups and downs. As you can imagine, in this industry, gaining clientele primarily happens through word of mouth – which is challenging until you’ve earned that first client’s trust.
The economy has also created significant challenges for a new business. However, I have managed to adapt to this by shifting my focus more towards public events that everyone can enjoy. To better understand my audience, I created a marketing questionnaire to gauge interest in different types of events. For example, my last survey had responses such as a desire for events with peonies, events with lawn games and picnics. In response, I organized a Bridgerton themed tea and luncheon, complete with flowers, lunch, a modern-day version of pall mall (croquet) & ring toss. This adaptability has allowed me to navigate the tough economy and continue to grow my business.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am best known for my themed events and for constantly striving to exceed expectations. I am most proud of myself for staying authentic and open-minded while fostering community relationships through both my public, and business, events.
What does success mean to you?
I feel successful when I face challenges head-on and when I, or my clients, make new connections through my events! Mostly, I feel successful when I am able to help my clients remember that each day is worth celebrating – because the darkness is too easily found in the world these days.
Success, to me, is when an event is a hit and I can lay down at night, with peace in my heart, knowing that I have been true to myself, served my clients and community well, and that I get to do it all again, in the near future.
