Community Highlights: Meet Kimberly Martinez of Bright Translation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Martinez

Hi Kimberly, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I studied Marine Biology in college, but after a few years of working in that field, I became a legal assistant in a 9-to-5 job. I was really unhappy there because I didn’t feel a sense of purpose in that role. That’s when I remembered my love for languages and the translation skills I had. I didn’t know anything about freelancing or entrepreneurship, but languages have fascinated me since I was young, and I was really good at it!

That passion led me to start Bright Translation, a business that helped anyone needing translation services into English and Spanish. It has been a bumpy and challenging ride with ups and downs, but I’m grateful I took the risk because I’m much happier now doing something I truly love.

Over the past eight years, I have expanded my services with a dedicated team for whom I’m genuinely grateful because of their excellent work. In the end, I always encourage people to follow their passion and make a career out of it. Even if you don’t know anything at the beginning, you can start little by little.

I’m excited to see what the future holds for Bright Translation. I’m always exploring new ways to serve my clients better and make their translation needs easier.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road! Building a business from scratch takes a lot of hard work and learning. There were times when finding new clients and promoting my services felt like an impossible thing to do, but I never stopped trying; instead, I worked harder, staying up late, waking up early in the morning, taking courses, reading books, and learning everything I could about the industry, which gave me a better understanding on how to offer my services in better ways to my clients. And all that effort eventually paid off.

What I’d like anyone to take from this is that challenges are part of life in anything we do. Taking challenges can make us more resilient and wiser, allowing us to grow, learn, and adapt. That’s why it’s perfectly okay to hit some bumps along the way; you just need to accept them as learning experiences on your journey.

We’ve been impressed with Bright Translation, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Bright Translation is all about helping people with their translation needs in English and Spanish, providing everyone with an excellent service and experience. Our main expertise is in the legal and educational fields, translating different documents for school districts, companies, and anyone who needs a translation service. We’re known for going the extra mile for our clients, giving them a well-translated file where we consider the subtle differences that make each culture unique so they can understand and feel related to the final document.

When it comes to our brand, what makes me most proud is seeing our clients happy and satisfied with our work! Knowing we helped someone with their translations, whether it’s a business deal or a personal message, is truly rewarding. So, if you’re looking for English and Spanish translations, we offer an outstanding service that meets your needs.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Taking risks can be scary, but stepping outside your comfort zone is important because that’s how we learn and grow. I wouldn’t say I’m a huge risk-taker, but I know I need to be more open-minded and take more risks in my life and business.

However, one of the most significant risks I’ve ever taken was quitting my 9-to-5 job and starting my translation business. I didn’t have support from my parents because they have a different culture where you usually have a secure job and a regular life. So, it was a huge risk to do this when the people around me thought I would fail, but I did it anyway. I saved the typical 6-month emergency fund and finally left my old job. I was shaking that day when I left the office (no, seriously!). But if I hadn’t taken that risk, my life would be totally different right now, so I’m glad I took that chance.

Another risk I recently took was moving out from California to Utah. I wasn’t sure about that; I knew it was a big move and didn’t know how the outcome would be. But guess what? It’s been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life. The important thing here is to calculate the risk and try to minimize the negative outcome.

As the saying goes, “The best things in life are on the other side of fear.” So, don’t be afraid to take on new risks and do things differently, and even if things don’t work out exactly as planned, you might be surprised by what you learn and how you grow from the experience.
