Today we’d like to introduce you to Armando Guerrero Avitia

Hi Armando, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Mexico, everything started when I did my Bachelors Degree on Automotive Engineering at BYU-Idaho, I came to the US without knowing how to cook to help my self so then I decided to call my grandma and my parents to ask for Mexican food recipes since all the Mexican food I tried here in the looked and tasted like everything else but real Mexican food, and I couldn’t believe it, because Mexico is not that far from the US, and the “Mexican Food” was all completely different.
Then with all the recipes I started to make food for me, my own starvation made me discover a new talent, the talent of cooking, but there was something missing, the Corn tortillas here in the US are disgusting, I never like them, so I decided to go home on one of my breaks, withe the goal on mind to learn how to make real Corn tortillas from scratch, from the kernel, and it was an amazing journey. When I came back to the US, I asked my parents to ship me a Corn grinder so I can keep practicing making tortillas and other delicious Mexican food, and so I did, my last year of school at BYU-Idaho I made tortillas and Tamales to sell to my friends and other students and I sold everything every single week. That’s when the idea of opening a restaurant arrived to my mind, and here I am, I created House of Corn Mexican Cuisine

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
A lot of challenges, starting with all the equipment I bought in Mexico and shipped all the way to Utah, the paperwork, and making the landlords trust me without a previous experience on the restaurant business
