Hi Rev Love Media, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Rev Love Media began as Red Lotus Media, a collective formed by west-side Salt Lake City folks, primarily Latine individuals. Focused on highlighting marginalized voices, we used storytelling to connect and empower our community.
By 2020, evolving into Revolutionary Love Media to better reflect our commitment to unity and transformative change. Our collective expanded, welcoming diverse voices while centering BIPOC, LGBTQ+, immigrant, and working-class communities.
Today, Rev Love Media continues to amplify underrepresented voices in the Salt Lake area through projects like SLZINE and RevLoveCast. We remain dedicated to using media as a tool for community building, advocacy, and fostering connections acrosslived experiences..
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our journey has been gradual, with both progress and learning experiences along the way. As with many grassroots efforts, we’ve faced challenges in sustaining engagement and building capacity. We’re continually working to bring more people into our study groups, meetings, and projects while navigating the balance between our ambitions and the resources we have.
We’re excited about the potential to connect with more community members, both locally and beyond, who resonate with our mission. We see Rev Love Media as a platform for sharing stories, addressing community needs, and fostering solidarity. We invite anyone interested in this work to join us, collaborate, and help amplify the voices and concerns that matter most to our communities. We’re always open to new connections and ideas as we continue growing together.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At Rev Love Media, we’re all about storytelling as a way to build community and connection. We use zines, podcasts, and digital media to amplify marginalized voices and bring their stories into both local and digital networks. What makes us unique is our collective approach—our creativity comes from sharing knowledge and understanding the diverse needs and intersections within our communities.
We’re focused on more than just content creation; we’re building spaces where people can connect across differences, recognize shared struggles, and engage in meaningful conversations. By linking local stories to broader movements, we aim to foster a deeper understanding and solidarity within our communities.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
If you’re just beginning, remember that it’s okay to take things slow and prioritize community care. Building something meaningful is a collective effort, and it’s important to recognize that rest and care are essential parts of that process. Whether you’re creating art, organizing, or storytelling, understand that sustainable work requires taking care of yourself ,each other and the earth (our environments) along the way.
One thing we’ve learned is that impact grows from genuine connections and shared intentions. Focus on building relationships that resonate with your values and align with the change you want to see. Collective impact doesn’t happen overnight—it’s the result of consistently showing up for our community and finding ways to support each other’s growth, movements, struggles and celebrations.
Looking back, we wish we’d known the importance of balancing with rest and reflection. Progress isn’t just about doing more; it’s about doing things in a way that nurtures both the community and ourselves in a sustainable manner. Trust the process, lean into collaboration, and remember that caring for the collective is just as vital as the work itself.
