Today we’d like to introduce you to Brady Murray
Hi Brady, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My second child and first son’s name is Nash. About 10 minutes after Nash was born the doctor told us that he has Down syndrome. I was not prepared for this news and I didn’t know what the future held for me and my family.
After some time had passed with Nash, we realized that his Down syndrome diagnosis was not a bad thing but in fact, a wonderful blessing for our family.
There were many new challenges and complications we faced but there were also new joys and a happiness that we were experiencing at the same time that made this new disability journey something we embraced wholly.
We became very involved in the Down syndrome community which led us to ultimately begin a non profit organization that inspires families to answer the call to adopt a child with Down syndrome or other unique circumstances. Over the last decade, we’ve been able to witness hundreds of adoptions take place.
We too felt called to adopt. We adopted our son Cooper from China in 2016. Cooper also has Down syndrome. He and Nash are the closest of friends and inseparable brothers.
Professionally, I have worked as a Certified Financial Planner and Chartered Special Needs Consultant for the last 21 years. I have experienced first hand the complexities that come from trying to plan for the future when one has a loved one who has a disability that causes them to be dependent on a caregiver and I have helped other families navigate those complexities as well.
I’ve realized over the years that providing having an expertise in special needs financial planning was good but it was still lacking when it came to giving families the guidance they needed in all aspects of disability planning, not just financial planning.
I knew that families also needed guidance for the complexities of government benefits, special needs trusts, guardianship, IEP’s and knowing truly what is available for their loved one by way of services in their state. The list went goes on when it comes to disability planning.
I started with a local search here in Utah to seek out an organization that could provide this for my family. I couldn’t find one. I then searched nationally and found more resources but even after a national search, I found what was being provided was still very much lacking.
It was for this reason that we founded CaringTide. Families that choose to become a Partner Family of CaringTide receive the professional guidance and direction needed in ALL aspects of disability planning.
We are a guide and partner to our families through each transition, challenge and triumph that their loved ones experience.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been easy but it surely has been worth it. The hardest part is compiling the team and network of professionals who have the expertise and experience that our families deserve. Through much diligence, and a lot of hard work, I’m pleased to say that we now have exactly the team I have dreamed about for our Partner Families.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about CaringTide?
We are a disability planning firm that serves families in all aspects of disability planning. Our approach is to partner with our families and walk alongside them through all aspects of their disability journey. These aspects include the technical side of financial planning, estate planning, benefit maximization and making sound legal decisions. Our services also include the ever important side of making sure our loved ones realize the full measure of their potential and are able to sing the song they are meant to sing.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I believe that the person you become is determined by the books you read and the people you surround yourself with.
I also believe in the concept of abundance and that all boats rise with a rising tide. Great companies partner with and do business with other great companies.
