Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian And Jen Boyle
Hi Brian and Jen, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Brian and Jen Boyle were married on April 21st, 2023 and now have a blended family of 8 children ranging in age from 22-10 years old with two sets of twin girls. Brian and Jen bought the MaidThis Cleaning franchise for Salt Lake City in October of 2o22 and just recently purchased the Provo territory in August of 2024.
Jen is the daughter of two physicians who from medical school to residencies to finally practicing had their family living in TX, IL, WI, and then finally in UT. Jen obtained her Associate Degree in Occupational Therapy from Rick’s College in Rexburg, ID. Soon after graduating and getting married, Jen and her ex-husband bought their first Papa Murphy’s pizza franchise which over the last 22 years grew to 6 locations in Northern Utah. Jen has been very familiar with franchising and was excited to start something new in another franchise opportunity. Jen along with a friend had previously owned a small cleaning company and Jen was very familiar with the industry.
Brian was born in NC but his parents were originally from PA and they moved the family back to PA when he was 3. Brian obtained a Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY and realized he did not like the cold NY weather so moved back to PA and then moved again shortly after back to NC where he obtained a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Brian and a business partner opened their first private practice physical therapy clinic in 2004 just outside of Charlotte, NC which quickly grew to 4 locations and 16 employees. In 2012 after a fallout between the partners and not seeing a way to work together, Brian made the extremely difficult decision to close the offices, file bankruptcy, and move across country to UT where his ex-wife is originally from but where he now calls home. The move allowed their boys to be closer to family near the same age.
After practicing in physical therapy for 26 years and being burnt out on paperwork and dealing with insurance companies, Brian was looking for something that he and Jen could do together. While on “X” in 2022 Brian came across a post from the owner of MaidThis and the post resonated with both Brian and Jen and they started exploring the idea of bringing the company to UT. The post talked about stability and time freedom. The stability of local services always being in demand and the time freedom for both the owners and cleaners being able to own their schedule while making money. Both of which were very important to Brian and Jen.
Much of their current success is credited to their previous business successes and failures, but in many ways the current success is due to their understanding of building and nurturing relationships with others in their community and always looking for ways to provide value to others.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The life of a business owner is chaotic, at least in the early stages of the business, until you can get the right people in place on your team. And as long as you have systems in your business, then you can manage the system, and plug people in as needed. Not to say that people are not valuable, but it is far easier to manage a system than a person.
The biggest challenge we had to overcome was figuring out pricing and what value our service brought into the marketplace. Once we figured out pricing things have only gotten better.
Another thing we did not take into consideration was that we would ever be doing the cleanings ourselves. We had our first booking before we had even hired any cleaning contractors and so we went with it. Through tons of research of best products, countless hours of working on technique, and reviewing manufacturer recommendations for how to care for different types of floors and appliances, we have come to realize that we are very good at what we do. Brian is the master at kitchens where he is the pro at transforming ovens/grills and detailing refrigerators. And Jen is the master at bathrooms where she can transform a mold covered shower and/or bath and make it look like no one has ever been in it before.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
MaidThis is a cleaning company that started in Los Angeles in 2013 and has since franchised to 30 locations across the US. In Salt Lake City we have quickly become known for two things: Detailed cleanings and customer service.
The detailed cleanings we do in residential, short-term rental, and commercial spaces. Our team prides itself in transforming and restoring properties during move-out/move-in cleans for homes, apartments, and townhomes and we work with numerous properties, property managers, and realtors who have quickly come to appreciate the fact that our team has a keen eye for detail and is not afraid to take on tough jobs.
As for customer service our team understands that relationships matter and that taking care of our clients is one of our top priorities. Whether it is making good on our “24-hour Happiness Guarantee” or offering a client a discount on services to make up for any inconvenience caused by a scheduling issue, we want to make sure that our clients feel like we understand what they are going through and we know having someone in your private space can be a little unnerving. We also understand that sometimes cleaners just have an off day. Something in the home may get missed or wasn’t completed to the standards that our clients have come to expect. That is where our “24-hour Happiness” guarantee comes into play. If a client ever feels like something was just off in their cleaning, all they need to do is contact our office and we will send someone back out at no additional charge to get the area or areas that need to be corrected. Simple as that. It doesn’t happen very often, but it gives our clients the peace of mind that every cleaning will be correct and if not, they are covered.
We also realize we are guests and never take that for granted. We like to say we get to clean for our clients, not have to clean for them and when we put that into perspective it allows us to lead with service in mind and not just one more thing we have to do.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The essential qualities we feel that are most important to our success are resilience and our faith. Life is hard and business is sometimes even harder. We have had our share of successes and failures but our faith that things will always get better keeps us going even in the toughest times and our resilience allows us to bounce back even better and stronger after any setback. The two combined have put us in the position we are in today.
