Life & Work with Ashley Pearce of Santaquin Utah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Pearce

Hi Ashley , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Flowers saved me. My father passed away unexpectedly a few years ago and I was able to take some of the floral arrangements home. I sat with those flowers in my feelings for weeks, carefully examining the different types of blooms and how they resembled my Dad. Slowly but surely I started to feel again, and started to live again. When I was 18 I nannied for a family in Southern California that started a wedding magazine and when the prints would come out I would immediately turn to the floral details. They were captivating. I knew that I wanted to be in the wedding industry from a young age but never knew exactly where or how. My Dads passing and my journey with grief made me realize how I wanted to spend my days, and those days were filled with flowers.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting a small business is not easy. Luckily I had some experience from a previous small business I started, but I had no floral design experience. When you’re new to an industry especially the wedding industry it’s hard to get people to take a chance on you. I decided to do my research and get some education and start networking. The few who took a chance on me, helped my career immensely.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am always looking for a challenge. If you have a crazy floral idea or something outside the box I want in on it. The thing I’m most proud of is the relationships I’ve formed with my brides and having the opportunity to be apart of their story. Love is contagious. I love lush, and over the top, weird unique designs. I try to use as much local product as I can. Here in Utah we have some amazing local flower farms that provide us with the most beautiful product to work with. Without them I wouldn’t have a business.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I always had a creative side even when I was younger. However, I grew up in a small town in California and sports was the thing. When I wasn’t immersed in sports I was outdoors hunting, fishing, camping and helping my grandmother in her flower garden. I always had this untapped creative side of me that I struggled to find an outlet for. It is so clear to me now that nature and my creativity would align one day.
