Today we’d like to introduce you to Abril Burgoyne

Hi Abril, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I came to this country at 21, full of dreams but with no clear path on how to make them happen. Like many, I started with small steps—learning English, taking on new challenges, and finding my footing. I enrolled at Salt Lake Community College and earned my associate’s degree in business. Later, I went to Utah State University to pursue a degree in business administration.

It wasn’t easy. By then, I had two children and a full-time job, and balancing everything felt overwhelming at times. But I kept pushing forward. While finishing my degree, I decided to get my real estate license, something I’d never thought I’d pursue but felt drawn to. In 2014, I earned my license, and in 2016, I graduated from college.

It wasn’t a straightforward journey, and there were plenty of challenges along the way, but every small step I took brought me closer to where I wanted to be. I hope my story resonates with others who are in the middle of their own journey, showing that even when the path seems long, every step counts.

Starting my journey in real estate was one of the scariest decisions I’ve ever made. At the time, I had been in the same full-time job for 13 years and was raising three children. The thought of changing paths was overwhelming, but I realized that time would pass, whether I chose to take action or just wait for the “right” moment—which never seemed to come.

Initially, I didn’t imagine myself as a full-time real estate agent. My job was stable and provided security, but as I began to help friends and family find their dream homes, something shifted inside me. What started as a small favor grew, and before I knew it, I was caught in the momentum of this passion. Real estate wasn’t just a job anymore; it became a calling that filled me with purpose and joy.

One of the things that truly lights me up is empowering Utah’s Latino community, whether they’re buying their first home or looking to invest. I want them to understand that real estate isn’t just about property—it’s about opportunity, and it can change lives.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many immigrants, I arrived in this country at 21 with big dreams but had to start from scratch. Learning English was my first hurdle, but I knew it was essential for moving forward. Balancing education, a full-time job, and raising children was incredibly tough. There were moments of exhaustion and doubt—especially while I was working toward my business degree and real estate license at the same time.

One of the biggest challenges was managing time. With two children, a full-time job, and school, there were days when it felt like there weren’t enough hours in the day. Finding the energy to keep going wasn’t always easy, but I stayed focused on my goals and on the future I wanted for myself and my family. I learned how to juggle responsibilities, prioritize, and make sacrifices.

Leaving a stable job after 13 years to pursue real estate full-time was another difficult decision. There was a lot of fear and uncertainty, but I had a passion for real estate and a desire to help others, especially in the Latino community. Despite the struggles, I pushed forward. Every challenge has made me stronger and more determined to succeed.

So no, it hasn’t been smooth, but each obstacle taught me something valuable, and I wouldn’t trade those lessons for anything.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Being a real estate agent is so much more than just helping people buy or sell a home—it’s about guiding and advising my clients based on their unique needs and dreams. I take pride in truly looking out for their best interests, making sure that every decision is the right one for their family’s future.

As a mother, I understand firsthand how important it is to find a home in a community where your children can thrive, where they can access a good education and grow up feeling safe and supported. This is something that’s deeply personal to me, and I know it’s just as important to the families I work with. Helping our community move forward and seeing families build a better future here is what motivates me every day.

One of the things that fills me with the most pride is the trust people place in me. There are thousands of agents out there, and the fact that clients choose me to help with one of the biggest decisions of their lives is an honor I never take for granted. Being part of their journey, seeing them find a home where they’ll watch their children grow—that’s the most rewarding part of my work.

It’s more than a transaction to me; it’s about being a part of my community’s story and helping families create a future they’re proud of.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
For anyone starting out, my advice is to embrace every small step and trust the process. When I came to this country, I had no clear path, but by learning, working hard, and pushing through challenges, I built my career. Don’t wait for the “right” moment—take action even when it’s uncertain. Build momentum by following your passion, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Every step, no matter how small, brings you closer to your goals. Stay focused, be patient, and trust in your journey.
