Today we’d like to introduce you to Shae Memmott
Hi Shae, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in the restaurant business, my grandparents opened a greasy spoon style diner which later got taken over by my father. I grew up in the back of the restaurant learning how to bake and make pie with my grandma who was the unofficial in house pastry chef. I started bussing tables when I was 11 and worked in the restaurant up until I moved away for college. So I guess you can say cooking is in my blood. I have been a foodie for as long as I can remember and love to show my love for people through my food. I started my website eatplayshae.com in 2021 and have been developing my own recipes and sharing them ever since. I started working full time on my business at the beginning of this year and have been lucky enough to see a lot of success.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been far from smooth. I treated my website more like a hobby for the first 2 years and then decided to dive into it full time as a business in January of this year. In order to get your recipes in front of people you have to create and edit a lot of social media content which content creators make look so easy but I am here to tell you it is definitely not easy. It took over 3 months of posting Instagram reels everyday before I had something go viral. Since then I have been lucky enough to go viral a handful of times which has taken my following on Instagram from 2,500 to over 90,000 in 9 months. This has allowed me to hire a team for Eat Play Shae and really start working on some bigger goals.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a food blogger and social media influencer/content creator. I do recipe development and share my recipes through my social media channels and on my website, eatplayshae.com. I specialize in homemade from scratch cooking and am known for my sweet and salty desserts. I am so proud of my hard work which has taken me from 2,500 followers to over 90,000 in 9 short months. What sets me apart from most other food content creators is that I am at the forefront of my brand and love to teach people how to cook by actually showing them myself as I cook and create recipes. I aim to be inviting to my followers in hopes that I can share the warmth of my kitchen and home cooking with them.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
My favorite book is The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz, it is really transformative for both your personal life and your business. It helped me grow exponentially as a human and as a business owner, I highly recommend it. My favorite apps to use for my business are Capcut, which is where I do my auto captioning and Perfect Video which is how I edit my videos for social media.
