Today we’d like to introduce you to Alo and Emma
Hi Alo and Emma, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The Resurrection Project was founded by Alo Lopez and Emma Dean, driven by our shared passions for fashion, art, music, and community. We envisioned a space where creatives could unleash their full potential and bring their unique visions to life. By uniting diverse talents, our goal was to offer a platform where their work could thrive and make a meaningful impact within a nurturing and supportive community. Our mission was to establish a safe and inclusive environment for QTIBIPOC individuals to authentically be themselves and resurrect their identities.
Because this is our first event ever, we were unsure and a little scared of what to expect. Emma and I both put in so many late nights and so much heart into this project, but we knew that “success” was not guaranteed. We were pleasantly surprised by the strong turnout and enthusiasm. It became clear that our community had been longing for such a gathering that brings together creatives and celebrates each other.
Sustainability has always been a core value for us. We wanted to emphasize that sustainable fashion can be both beautiful and impactful. By spotlighting local designers who prioritize environmental responsibility, we aim to show that fashion can be both eco-friendly and aesthetically appealing. Through our events, we strive to highlight the potential for resurrection and transformation in fashion, art, and community.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road hasn’t always been smooth—hosting an event of this scale for the first time came with its fair share of challenges. We faced numerous obstacles and often had to learn and adapt on the fly as we navigated through the complexities of organizing such a large gathering. From managing logistics to addressing unexpected issues, it felt like a rollercoaster ride at times.
Fortunately, we were not alone in this journey. Our friends at SISTER, who have long been hosting successful QTIBIPOC events, were so ready and eager to share their industry knowledge and creative connections. We were quickly led to the right team, with each person playing an indispensable role in bringing our vision to life. Additionally, we could not have done this without the support and encouragement of our incredible SLC community. The support we received from both our friends and the broader community kept us going when things got hard. Their unwavering belief in us was truly a testament to the importance of our project.
We also recognize that this is an ongoing learning experience. We are constantly discovering new things and finding better ways to do things. Staying open to feedback and learning from every experience is crucial for our growth. It’s through this continuous process of learning and adapting that we can keep improving and making each event even better than the last.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Alo Lopez is a digital marketing manager at a sports and entertainment company, specializing in a wide range of marketing strategies. With expertise in web development, advertising, social media, and print marketing, I’ve played a key role in shaping our brand strategy and driving event promotion. From crafting impactful marketing campaigns to leveraging valuable networking opportunities, my background in digital marketing has been crucial in the success of this project.
Emma Dean is a project manager in the biotech sector with a proven track record for managing strict timelines, costs, resources, and cross-functional teams. Her expertise in the project life cycle — on both the micro and macro levels — was crucial for coordinating and keeping track of all the hectic, moving parts of this project. Making sure we were documenting all of our progress and communications ensured we were organized and stayed ahead of our deadlines as missing a deadline by even just a few days could put our whole show at risk.
What truly sets us apart is how our complementary skills come together to create a holistic approach to event organization and promotion. My marketing expertise and Emma’s project management precision blend seamlessly, allowing us to execute our vision with both creativity and efficiency. We are incredibly proud of how our hard work has paid off, demonstrating that when you fully commit to an idea and push each other to excel, dreams can indeed become reality. Seeing our vision come to life and the positive impact it has made reaffirms our belief in the power of collaboration and perseverance, even in moments when success seemed unlikely.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
While we greatly value various resources like books, podcasts, and apps for inspiration and organization, our community has been the most significant factor in making this project a reality. Their support, feedback, and encouragement have been invaluable, demonstrating that the strength of a collaborative and engaged community can truly drive success.
