Today we’d like to introduce you to Travis Labrel
Hi Travis, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I came to Utah from Los Angeles to basically escape my old life. The city was draining me mentally and financially and I had to get out. I came here to start over and write my songs hoping it would bring some sort of closure on the past. I played in a band for like 10 years in LA and toured all over. I learned a lot in that time period and I started my solo journey in 2016. Now I don’t tour around much at all anymore, but I still put out songs quite often. I guess I’m getting old.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Money was always a struggle, not to mention the lifestyle. Bars every night, drinking, drugs. Sometimes it got out of hand.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I work a blue collar job, jack of all trades I’d say, and I am a songwriter. I’m known for writing the sad songs and I am proud of that. No one wants to hear how good you feel, they take more joy in the darkness we all feel inside. It’s good to let it out sometimes.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Be good to each other. Practice empathy. You never know what the person has been through, and how just a little bit of love can change a life.
