Inspiring Conversations with David Perez of Enter The Barbell Training Systems

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Perez

Hi David, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I moved to Utah from California looking for a better life. I was trying my hand at standup but when Covid hit I didn’t have much of a purpose anymore and I felt like I needed to “grow up”. After kicking around a few warehouse jobs for a while ,I was just kind of sick of it and I knew that wasn’t what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. A friend of mine was trying to get a job anywhere he could and suggested we become personal trainers. He didn’t follow through with that but I kind of had this moment where I made a deal with myself and thought “what’s something I could do for the rest of my life and be fine with?” Keyword “fine” . I didn’t have high expectations, but I figured I could live with myself day to day if I was a personal trainer. 3 years later and I’m glad I made that decision.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not. And as much as I might throw my fists in the air and say that it’s “not fair” and “why me?” I don’t think I’d be the type of person I am today if I didn’t overcome these challenges. I think the biggest struggle I’ve had to face is myself and my bad habits and my lack of self confidence and belief in myself. Every time I’ve hit a roadblock there’s the old me standing there saying “you’re not good enough , turn back around”. And I have to figure out a way to evolve and be better than that guy.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a strength and conditioning coach that helps everyday people get stronger and build more confidence in the gym. My clients say I’m a stickler for technique and I think that’s what sets me apart from others. I really do take a Mr. Miyagi approach and I think that’s what makes my clients so proficient working with a barbell that they build confidence and can even teach others. I’ve had clients start coaching others because of how confident they’ve become on their own. I offer one on one training , group classes, and online training services to help any individual improve their training performance and IQ.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I didn’t realize this was the thing that mattered most because I didn’t realize it was something that could…”BE”. There’s a certain transition that a client who has made a great transformation goes where they really do become unrecognizable to who they used to be in the best way possible. They develop traits that make them better and more capable and more confident. And I didn’t realize that was something that could happen, I thought it was just about lifting heavier circles.
