Life & Work with Lisa Gardner of Herriman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Gardner

Hi Lisa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have a Bachelors of Science in Home & Family Living with an emphasis in interior design. I have been doing commercial & residential interior design for nearly 10 years. Early on in my career I worked for a couple different small design firms. When my daughter was born, I quit working for a firm and started my own interior design business. I have loved my flexible work schedule that has allowed me to focus on raising my daughter during her younger years.

Now I offer my clients a very personalized and detailed experience that you may not get from the larger interior design firms. When potential clients contact me, our initial meeting is a free consultation where I talk with them about their project, needs and timeline. I work within a my clients budget and their preferred design style. If they don’t know what type of design they like, I can help with that too.

My latest project was a new construction pediatric dental office in South Jordan called “Little People’s Dental”. The theme of their office was Peter Pan and it was so enjoyable to incorporate that theme in a modern, sophisticated way that both the children and their parents would enjoy when they come for a dental visit.

I specialize in creating unique ways to give a space function and beauty. I love reimagining what a space could potentially be or making suggestions to add function to a space when the plans are being drawn up for a new construction project. I always tells my clients that my best advice is to get a designer hired and on board as soon as possible, this will help your project to go more smoothly.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I am happy that I found a couple of design firms at the beginning of my career to gain great experience from alongside my education. The first design firm I worked for specialized in new construction builds in Park City. During that time, I learned that organization and detail were incredibly important to a design project. There have been many time that I have saved my clients money with my organizational skills during a design project. The second firm I worked with, I worked as an independent interior design contractor and took on 15 interior design projects at one time as well as helping the firm start a furniture showroom alongside their interior design services. I learned a great deal about furniture design, furniture lines, ordering, quality, etc. and I use this skill as part of my full design services that can include furniture design at my clients request.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I offer both commercial and residential interior design services. That sets me apart from other interior designers, who typically only focus on either commercial or residential. I specialize in commercial design, however, I have a great deal of experience in both. I believe this offers my clients a unique design perspective as there can be crossover.

I consider myself a more modern style designer, it has my heart. However, I believe in designing for my clients and what style they love. I have designed spaces in many different styles and love to help create a personalized space for each client.

How do you think about luck?
Luck has played no part in my life or business. I believe in choices. I have made choices that have lead me to where I am today. I believe having a goal or striving for something you want to achieve and keeping that in the forefront of your decision making will get you to where you want to be.
