Hidden Gems: Meet Kylee Pulsipher of Beauty Calls Wax Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kylee Pulsipher.

Kylee Pulsipher

Hi Kylee, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all started when I was a little girl. The beauty industry has always been something I wanted to be a part of. I am the oldest in my family and have 3 little sisters and they were always products of the latest hair trends and makeup looks that I wanted to try.

When the time came for me to go to cosmetology school I was thrilled. Finally, I could be the best hair stylist there ever was. I did well in school, and found my best friend all while trying to figure out girlhood and what that meant.

I graduated at 18 and 6 months later went on to serve a mission for the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When I came back I thought that I would be working with hair. I was mistaken. It all started for me when I was about to get married and booked an appointment to get a Brazilian wax with Kenzie the Esthetician. It was painful, but yet I was comfortable and it was quick! I loved hair but the 4 hour + appointments just were not for me. I quickly signed up for a small waxing course to learn the basics and 6 months later, with the support and encouragement from my husband, I opened Beauty Calls Wax Studio in September of 2020!

2020 was a year of ups and downs for everybody and to say I was nervous was an understatement. Being newlyweds and starting a business less than a year in, had its challenges! I worked a second job cutting men’s hair at great clips for the first 6 months to build a clientele and steady income for me and my husband. He was also in school and working both full time. Our lives were busy, but we could not have done it without the support of each other.

About a year later at the beginning of 2022, I was awarded Best of SLC in the waxing category and was a top 3 finalist the year after. It has been a crazy almost 4 years but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Beauty Calls is for the girls. It’s a place women come to remove their hair, but to also vent, cry, and laugh. Beauty Calls is inclusive, energetic, and beautiful. Every day I work I have a fully booked day and for that, I am so grateful to my clients who support me and love me! I truly have the best girl gang out there.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The challenges of opening a business are many, but the reward is great. Every day I get to help women feel sexy, confident, and comfortable in their skin. and I could not ask for a greater reward. I feel like i explained some of the obstacles above with my story.
