Meet Devin Davis of devindavisvocals

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devin Davis

Hi Devin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey in music started with a passion for education and performance, which I’ve been able to combine throughout my career. After earning my degree in Music Education, I began teaching choir in 2017. Since then, I’ve had the incredible privilege of working with hundreds of students across various schools. Over the years, I’ve taught choir, orchestra, and other musical subjects, always striving to foster a love of music in my students. Watching them develop their vocal abilities and grow in confidence has been one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

In addition to teaching, I’ve been a member of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, performing in many concerts and performances. That experience has been invaluable in refining my own vocal and performance skills, which I bring back to the classroom to inspire my students. The intersection of my performance experience and teaching has given me a unique perspective on music education, helping me guide students not only in technique but also in the art of performance.

A significant chapter of my career began when I started working with One Voice Children’s Choir. Being part of this organization has been an incredible experience, collaborating with talented young singers and a dedicated team. I truly value the opportunity to contribute to the choir’s mission of spreading joy through music. It’s been inspiring to witness the growth and talent of these young singers, and I’m proud to play a role in their musical journeys.

Outside the classroom and choir, I’ve built a presence on social media, where I’ve been able to merge my passion for music with content creation. I create videos on vocal techniques, music education, and behind-the-scenes glimpses of my work with choirs. Over time, this content has resonated with a large audience—growing my following to over 700K on TikTok and 50K on Instagram. I love engaging with my followers, sharing insights, and building a community of people who are passionate about music and learning.

The journey hasn’t been without its challenges But, each role fulfills me in a unique way, and I’ve worked hard to find harmony among them. I’ve been fortunate to blend my love for music education with the opportunities that social media provides for creativity and connection. In the end, my story is one of dedication to music, whether it’s in the classroom, on stage, or online. Every performance, every post, and every lesson is a way for me to share the transformative power of music with others, and I look forward to continuing this journey in the years to come.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road hasn’t always been smooth, but the challenges have shaped me and helped me grow in many ways. One of the biggest struggles has been balancing multiple roles—teaching, performing with the Tabernacle Choir, working with One Voice Children’s Choir, and building a social media presence. Each of these responsibilities requires time, energy, and dedication, and it hasn’t always been easy to find harmony between them.

Another challenge has been navigating the financial realities of working in the arts. While I love teaching and working with choirs, these roles alone haven’t always provided the stability I needed. This led me to explore other avenues, like social media, to supplement my income. Growing my platforms to over 700K followers on TikTok and 50K on Instagram has been rewarding, but building a loyal following took time, creativity, and consistency.

In the classroom, I’ve faced the ongoing challenge of finding ways to reach each student individually, especially when working with large groups. Every student learns differently, and helping them unlock their potential requires patience and adaptability. However, seeing them grow has always been worth the effort.

Despite these hurdles, I’ve learned that challenges can lead to innovation. Whether it’s finding new ways to manage my time or connecting with a wider audience through social media, these struggles have pushed me to grow both personally and professionally.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck has definitely played a role in my social media journey, especially given how unpredictable the algorithms can be on platforms like TikTok and Instagram. The nature of social media is always shifting—you can never fully anticipate what content will take off. There have been times when a video I didn’t expect much from went viral, while others I put a lot of thought and effort into didn’t gain as much traction. It really keeps you on your toes!

The algorithms are constantly changing, and it sometimes feels like a game of trial and error. One week, a certain type of content might perform well, and the next week, the same kind of post could barely make an impact. It’s frustrating at times because there’s no set formula for success, but that’s also what makes social media exciting—you never quite know what to expect.

Despite the unpredictability, I’ve learned that staying consistent and being authentic with my audience is key. Even when I can’t control the algorithm, I can control how often I post, the quality of my content, and how I engage with my followers. In the end, luck plays a part in what goes viral or gains momentum, but hard work and adaptability help me stay in the game, no matter how things shift.
