Today we’d like to introduce you to Naomi Garrow
Hi Naomi, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always used social media as a way to share parts of my life that I think are worth seeing. Part of that is not taking it so seriously. Nowadays, you’ll find people wanting to post certain content to get the most “likes” or to gain an exclusive social status. For me, I post what I want to, when I want to, because I want to. Whether it be silly or food pics or a fun concert, I post what makes me, me. Social media is supposed to be fun, so I want to keep it that way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think the journey I’ve had with social media has been a fun and insightful one. People around me sometimes question why I post what I do and I reply with “It’s my page, I can post what I want to!” It’s a great way to have others sometimes turn inwards and question why they judge others if what somebody is doing makes them happy. It’s also helped me to let go of outside expectations and to find the joy in what I’m doing without the pressure. That’s why platforms like instagram and X started, right? We share what we want to and if others like it, great! I’ve had people express to me how much they like what I post and that it doesn’t feel strict, if that makes sense. I have also come to respect those who take social media seriously as their every day job. There are levels of effort that can be put forth with social media, and learning what’s right for you is fun to discover.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
One of the things that I love about my social media is that it is a stark contrast to what I do professionally. By day, I work in politics. By night, I’m an avid traveler and concert goer who’s always on the move. I love what I do professionally and I love that it allows for the flexibility of my “alter ego,” so to speak. Most of my friends know me for always being at a concert or out of town…spoiler – it’s usually both. Friends will often ask me to record specific songs at concerts and I’m happy to oblige. It’s gotten to the point where I created a separate Instagram account for my concert goings. It genuinely makes me happy and I’m always looking for the next show. Music and traveling helps to give me breaks between work and I think it has helped me avoid burnout many times. Why live to work when you can work to live?
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I hate the process of traveling. I dislike having to go to the airport. I dislike flying; it doesn’t bother me but if I had a superpower, I would choose teleporting. The whole airline buisness is another thing I could go off on a tangent about but I’ll spare you. I also dislike packing. I need clothing options people! I need a checked bag, not a backpack! There are a lot of little things but overall, the traveling process is low on my list of likes. It surprises people because of how often I am out of town.
