Daily Inspiration: Meet Josey Dumas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josey Dumas

Hi Josey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up I’ve always been creative at heart whether it was from getting dolled up for school events or just my day-to-day average life. I had a knack for putting an outfit together and figuring out hair and makeup but I never dared to press record or post. I think for me it was a matter of wanting to be in the moment but recording for the memories. Now I realized that I could’ve capitalized off of my ability to just be me—a bright-eyed girl from the inner city of Miami wanting to be a star. I will say that that little girl is with me every day. She’s the one telling me how cool it would be to become a well-known yet personable content creator in today’s society while making an impact on other’s lives.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Whew! It has not been easy for me like at all, lol. I’ve started then stopped to just do it all over again but I feel in my heart of hearts that this time will be different. Rather I’m pursuing my dreams while scared or even anxious about what the future holds, what matters is I’m just simply doing it. I’m willing to bet on myself to remain consistent and locked in even if it means I’d experience being shadow-banned or not getting as many views as I’d hope to.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a part-time content creator and my content is centered around beauty, lifestyle, and travel. I am mostly known for my hair vlogs from visiting multiple Dry Bar branches in the west and southern regions. I even had Dry Bar’s social media pages post my very first hair vlog video, where I received most of my audience and engagement. I’m most proud of myself for seizing the moment by posting content centered around Black women visiting salons like Dry Bar because that’s unheard of. I wanted my audience to see that you don’t have to be afraid to take a chance at your location’s hair salons and that you can spend a fraction of the price as well.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Definitely my faith in God! It has been my relationship with Him that has brought me this far and out of my shell. Often we are our own worst enemy, and we let anxiety win. So in my relationship with God, I was able to have a seat at my table when others counted me out. In short, all of my luck has been faith.
