Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalia Brandon.
Hi Natalia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It all started when I took a trip to Hawaii that changed my life. I had never been to Hawaii, so I decided to stay for two weeks. I visited the Garden Island of Kauai first and that’s where it all happened. I Met some locals that told me about a little place called glass Beach So I decided to visit. This was a beach where Seaglass was tumbled in from the ocean in so many different colors. I was captivated instantly by the blues and greens so I started collecting a few and by the end of that first week I had quite the collection. I didn’t think much of it until I got back home Two weeks later. At the time I was a worship leader and piano and vocal instructor. I enjoyed the (Worship) side of things, but I wasn’t super excited about teaching young children because my heart was really in ministry. But music is what I knew. As soon as I got back, however, everything changed. I felt in my heart that the Lord was nudging me to change directions. I had prayed about this and asked Him to give me wisdom because my heart just wasn’t in what I was doing. I instantly heard to make jewelry, in prayer. My first response was, “but I don’t even really wear jewelry.” Still, I heard the same thing. So I said as long as I can do it as a ministry then yes.. So I got to work. I started wire wrapping all of those sea glass pieces, But I wanted to do it with real metal so I bought my first sterling silver wire. I watched tutorials and practiced a lot. Little by little those little seaglass pieces became wearable art that I made into necklaces and earrings. I thought they were really beautiful. A few weeks later I made my very first sale at a yard sale that I put on. It was very inspiring. As time went on, I kept wanting to improve, so I began to study silversmithing. I watched videos, subscribed to different channels and read articles, The Lord has taught me how to use this as a ministry and it’s wonderful. I later decided to further my learning as a silversmith in Phoenix, Arizona at a school called Harold’s Studio. I truly enjoyed the classes and the environment and being able to ask questions. There I made my very first sterling silver ring and got to work right away on Creating more beautiful pieces. Today I own a shop and get to go to different shows and meet amazing people! I’ve now even done some goldsmithing. I made my very first custom order Gold Ring Pendant for a client who wanted to take their Husbands wedding band and turn it into a heart pendant. I truly enjoy making custom orders and creating, what is now my motto, ‘ Beautiful jewelry for beautiful people’. I have been inspired by my trips out west I even became quite the rockhound. You could say that my style is a blend of the two worlds, beach life, and the Southwest boho desert life. My most popular piece is what I like to call ‘Ariel’s locket’. It is an Iridescent, Opalized ammonite fossil that I turn into Beautiful Jewelry. My favorite pieces to wear is anything with Larimar just because I love the backstory and because it looks like the ocean and it’s absolutely gorgeous. I really enjoy what I do, and I just continue to pray that God uses me for His glory and to bless others! Ecclesiastes 3:11 “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end”
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not as smooth as I would’ve liked. The struggles for me in the very beginning was learning how to solder and do it well. Once I developed that skill, the most difficult thing was to find the right clientele and market myself in the best way that I knew how. Calling different boutiques and stores and asking if they would like to see my jewelry was hard for me to do as well. Setting the right prices so that I could pay myself and make some profit took some time to understand and learn as well
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a silversmith specializing in a modern southwest Bohemian style jewelry blended with a beach and coastal design. I use Precious metals, precious gemstones, and even fossils to create pieces that exude the natural beauty that God created and highlight the stones themselves. I am most known for my opalized Iridescent Ammonite pieces that I like to call ‘Ariel’s Locket’. I even created a tool to make it. Everything I do I do with precision and with hours of practice behind it. I strive for quality. What also sets me apart I believe is my desire to minister through what I do as well as glorify God, the one who created it all.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
First and foremost, definitely God. He gets all the credit and glory for leading me on this path and to the right places and people My teacher at Harold studio, my family that encouraged me to continue, my husband, Brad, who believed in me and helped me with so much and still does, so many friends who believed in what I was doing and loved my jewelry so much to buy so many pieces from me and spread the word. Not only have they made a difference to the success of the business, but they have inspired me to continue what I do.
