Today we’d like to introduce you to Sadie Utley
Hi Sadie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My hair journey started in my senior year of high school! The technical education department had a cosmetology program! I received 500 hours, prior to graduation! The rest of my 2000 hours were completed at Utah State University Eastern! It was a blast!! My time was filled with hair, working on an associates, and playing soccer!! I graduated in Fall of 2020 with my cosmetology certification and an Associates! Summer of 2021 I worked at a blow dry bar, Pro Do! Super awesome work place for learning and growth! When change was feeling necessary I started working at a full service hair salon in Midvale, Utah! The most amazing women work there, who quickly became my mentors and friends. After a year or so I decided to move to Provo, Utah!! It was a tough decision due to the fact that I loved my career at the Salt Salon! This is when I found Salon on the Ave! It has been a great place of work. I’ve grown so much, in my confidence, in my skills! I still work a few days a month at the Salt Salon!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In hind sight it feels like it has been a smooth road! I forget the hard work that it took sometimes! You graduate highschool and realize that no one is telling you what to do or how to do it! College was nice because I had some sense of direction. Once I graduated from Utah State Eastern I felt a little in the dark. I decided to take it one step at a time and really focus on perfecting my skills. I worked at a great clips for a month to perfect men’s haircuts. The Pro Do Blow Dry bar was to perfect my hairstyling after I wash and cut hair. Also speed!! The Salt Salon was to really jump into the hair world. I had amazing mentors, and was actually assisting hairstylists here and there. This was very beneficial in the fact that I forever have peers and mentors to connect with and ask questions if needed!! I feel so grateful for all the people I have crossed paths with in this industry who have got me where I am today!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At the full service salon I love haircuts and colors/blonding. I feel proud of my layered haircuts! I love layers and find them so flattering on most if they are done properly!! I think that the basis of a beautiful hairstyle is from a well done haircut. My current goal is too be well know for bridal hairstyling! I LOVE wedding and event hair! It’s so fun to be apart of these special days and make others feel confident and beautiful!
What were you like growing up?
I love this question haha! I am the oldest of 4 girls. I think my personality is pretty stereotypical in the fact that I am the oldest girl. I had the pressures of setting a good example. Received good grades, never went against my parents! Although I did have fun!! I played soccer, that was my main source of fun! I was the girl who braided hair before games! That helped me tap into my creative side and my love for styling hair. Where my passion began!!
